It seems that...
When I had turned on my Speakers over STEAM, that my Microphone would
appear in my Friends List. I don't know why you would have it showing there,
the Microphone I think turns activates it, though.
This does not seem to happen anymore, though.
I don't know how you have your PC Setup, but?
My Setup:
Windows 10 Desktop: TV or PC Display Through HDMI Speakers
Windows Settings: Only Master Audio In & Out were setup
Microphone: My Microphone
STEAM: TV or PC Display Through HDMI Speakers
STEAM Microphone: My Microphone
What is the difference between the two? Because I used my own Settings,
instead of the Default ones, & I also did not set anything up such as
STEAM Mic, or STEAM Speakers, I chose not to use these at all, I used
my own.
Does any of this help? Also, you may want to check Windows Settings for
Microphone, there are some things about limitations of use, & Windows 10
has a Master section with all kinds of Volumes for different Apps. & such.
You also have Windows 10 Speaker Properties with some things in it as well.
Lastly, you have STEAM Settings TAB, Friends List TAB, & Big Picture MODE
Sound Options.
Still no luck? then something, such as a Firewall, or software could be
blocking it from being used.
PS: It could also be something taking control of your Mic. that is using it,
instead of STEAM, something running in the background.
