Need Help! Binding Generic Controllers Individually
Hi all,

I need a hand when it comes to binding individual controllers.
I've got three generic controllers that are the same, and one that is different.

Steam recognizes them all, but as the same type of controller.
This is fine for the first three, but the last controller binds the right joystick incorrectly. (It can only move on a specific angle).

So I need to bind the last controller separately from the other three. The only issue is, that when I change the bindings, it applies to ALL the controllers.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

There's a button where you can chose which gamepad the config applies to.

Does this while binding in big picture (not in game) I've tried modifying controls in game but it doesn't work.

If you can map stuff in-game (so if the game supports your "generic" gamepads), disable Steam's input mapper all together.
What I mean is in Steam. I don't run Big Picture often but the input mapper is open able from the "normal" interface.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've tried this already and haven't had any luck.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear in my OP but the issue I'm having is that 3 controllers the right joystick is something like axis 2 and 3. But on the other it is 3 and 4.

So when I apply the binds, it does it for all controllers, meaning it's wrong on one.

As I said, you can decide which gamepads the configuration gets applied to. IN STEAM, that is. I can't tell you exactly where to click ATM as I haven't memorized it's exact location. Check the bottom of the input mapper screen or wait a couple hours. I'll be home by now and able to check it's exact location myself.

Sweet, I'll give it a look then update you.

If I'm not mistaken you right click the game and click "Configure controller" which brings up the UI to do binds and such.

The issue is that even doing THIS relies on the binds you make in big picture.

So I need a way to make steam think that one of the controllers is unique. (just different from the others pretty much)

... and this, in Steam, is where I set 2cof my two gamepads leaving the last one unaffected because there's a per-gamepad configuration setting.

This is a very difficult situation to explain sorry, but this is not helping.

The configuration is affected by the binds in the beginning.

Because the controllers are slightly different I cannot correct this with a config.

Look buddy. I am running different configurations for different gamepads. Is it or is it not what you want?

Again, no.

I need the initial binds to be different. Using different configs does NOT fix this.

Since you're relying on singular terms, please define the difference between "initial bind" & "config". I use the term in a simple manner: "generic" gamepad input goes on, something the game understands comes out. That's what I call "config". You're using those terms differently than I am.

Let's try to remove the terms. "Generic" gamepad input goes in, Steam does something, something the game understands comes out.

Steam does different things to different gamepads @ my place.
Is Steam doing different things with different gamepads what you want or not?

Let me try explain my situation fully.

I have one generic controller (unbranded) that looks like an xbox controller.
And I have three (playmax) controllers.

If I open "Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings > Define Layout" and bind all my controls with the playmax controllers, the right joystick X and Y axis will read as "Axis 2 and Axis 3"

If I do the same and define the layout on my knockoff xbox controller, it reads as "Axis 3 and Axis 4" (The left axis remains unchanged)

To my knowledge, this cannot be solved via using different configs, (I have tried).
Hopefully this helps.

Say "yes" then. You want Steam to have different mappings for different gamepads. As I've been saying, this is possible. I just don't remember EXACTLY what to tell you where to click because I am too lazy to memorize unimportant details.

You're using the word "config" wrong. ALL OF THIS is a config, it's just that there's a global config (which you're calling "binds in the beginning") and a per-game config (which you're calling "config) which can override the global one.
None of this is in-game, Steam's per-game config is still Steam's, maintained and loaded by Steam.

As I said, Steam can have different configs (including what you're calling" binds in the beginning") for different gamepads. If "i found it somewhere on the bottom of the screen" ain't enough, I'll be home in a couple hours, then I can tell you the exact name of the thingy to look for.

I appreciate your patience, hopefully you're right!

I guess I'll just wait for you to get home for the time being then.
