Discovering Game data deletes the files

So I asked a copy of monster hunter from my friend and then I tried placing it at Steamapps common folder and when i started to install it says Discovering Game data or something like that but after it does that it deletes the chunks of the file..... Pls help I don't want to download it

Didn’t get the appmanifest file for the game? You need that - go back to your friend and get a copy of it from their SteamApps directory.

Example: D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps
