Annoying blurred images
It's an annoyance having things blurred. Every time I turn around things are blurred some not even the type of content that should be blurred.

I have indicated via my account preferences to have everything unblurred. However, this seems to do absolutely nothing. I still have to contact support to get them to unblur images that don't even meet the criteria for being blurred. If you are going to include a feature make sure that it works well enough when you release it. I have seen threads on this issue as far back as the release of this. A 2018 thread claimed this to be FIXED which it clearly wasn't fixed. Maybe the issue cropped back up again. I have been battling this for years and it plain sucks.

Here are links to an example I found today.

Blurred 1

Blurred 2

Blurred 3

So, why are people bringing up Google or Amazon here? It just doesn't make sense.

When you see a blurred picture in your steam feed, and click on it to see it anyway, you first get a text that explains what is happening and it mentions google and amazon filtering. That is why people bring up Google and Amazon. But the problem is that we have set our settings to not enable censoring and it still happens.

well how said you can show this in public. just so you know then view and link it could be the cause. if paint blur it then i dont know thats your own windows then it most use a check source , same on tube if you have the rights to it. ( i not a expert here because , but i think that was script with % in human color get blur automatic, so its complicated to know, but if you cant show it on own pc then whats the point with screenshorts )

maybe other know better, its not a area i know much about.

I think it's pretty annoying too. The blurring is set on default, but unchecking the 2 blurring options does not stop the blurring at all. I even saw a message that third party scanners (like google) are checking if content should be blurred. It is useless too if you can unblur it anyway by clicking on it.

I agree, google oversteps their bounds too much these days in my opinion. I don't think this will have a resolution for a long time to come. I wish that I could find an answer by changing google settings or something but that just simply won't work. Unless there was a link feature but I don't like linking to everything, mainly because then sites can share more information about me.

Can you re-check and see if the setting has changed back to what it previously was (off)?

What do you mean by "changed back to what it previously was (off)"? They ARE "off" (in other words- disabled, in other words- the two checkboxes are unchecked) currently and they were "off" before, since the first time i have encountered this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ censoring mechanism. And each of numerous times i've encountered blurred images in my activity feed, i went and checked those settings and they always were "off". And yes, i have tried enabling them and then disabling back again- this doesn't sollve the issue.

Funny thing is also, that it seems random. I see stuff from friends blurred sometimes and an hour later it isn't blurred anymore. So what is happening?

ask support, i guess if it in the steam , then they have to look at it.

i try to help is it blur in the MSpaint on own machine then its game devs or system not a steam issue, you need to proof where is the bug on own pc or can you share picture to other user as private, or is it a web filter that block nude. and if picture is code with rights then only own user can view it. ( just like a tube video , your country dont have rights to see this )
its complaicated as hell if you dont know what is what and done by what security or rights.

even underage app security can block this ( parrent or adult have maybe install something, so if you are not 18 or they have forgot to remove lock or app ) then it will be blur. i assume its not that and all is over 18.

and as i try to explan OP dont have right to link nude things on steam. another block.

It's only Steam as far as I know. The blurred images are screenshots, and when they are blurred and you click on them, you get a message from steam saying something about Google and amazon filters. I can't exactly remember the wording. I have never heard of a third party filter censoring images on my PC without my knowledge. If that were true I would be really upset. I almost 4 times 18, I'm retired.

i have its been there for years , start with image scanning % human nude skin.
maybe you was a kid then they did it and then you dont know. but again cant say what news cover this and maybe you forgot all parrent and the wolrd dont like it be broadcasted like that.
it has always been this way, only next gen people know there is no limit in chat and show, problem is you colider with rest of world opiniones.

try talk sex with own parrent , and this is 2020, see how tabu this still is , not all parrent is open for it and educate own kid's.

well we better stop here, even debat it has steam policy issue. ( this forum is not right places for it )
i only reply so you know why filter is there, and not rest of the world will agree with you.
they try protect kids for the worst on net ( even i agree with that, its adult only not for kids. )

Yeah as far as I can tell Google/Amazon is the culprit. It is bothersome, I wish that Steam would do something about all this mess.

I agree. I think Steam is using Google and Amazon filtering, and their code isn't working properly when people want no censoring of content. I have no problem if the blurred pictures were really of adult content, like sexual or too gruesome, bloody. But the pictures I have seen blurred aren't adult material. There is no app on my PC running that filters my content. Because I can see everything on all other websites. It only here on Steam where this happens. And it's faulty.

I have the same issue. I think it was fixed some time ago, since I didn't notice it until recently. Now the options change absolutely nothing.

What's weird is neither Google or Amazon have the same type of filtering that Steam has at all.
Google has image search with options to disable the filter for any adult content at all.
Nothing gets blurred at all. Period. If you disable adult content from showing up, you don't even get any images at all.
Same with Bing.

Amazon doesn't even have blurring as an option either.

So, why are people bringing up Google or Amazon here? It just doesn't make sense.

Yes, Steam's filter is not working properly. That's true.
But to claim something weird about Google and Amazon just makes no sense.
Google doesn't even want to mess with Steam.

Because Valve uses their AI for it.
