Steam used 4.9GB data
Hey, my net is down at home so ive been forced to use net from my phone.. And i capped steam's download speed and i saw it has used nearly 5GB over a night, was even capped at 64kb/s (lol). How is this possible? makes no sense to me. Im playing 1 game and it had no patch recently either, Guess it's my own fault that i left the net on idle over night, but still.. I did everything in win 10 including steam to prevent things like this to happen. /confused

Steam doesn't always obey the speed cap. Other people have reported having issues with Steam not capping their speeds. It could just be that Steam was updating installed games overnight.

Had 2 games on paused and it hasnt been updated, so find that weird aswell.. Uninstalled them for now, still... 5GB, wtf steam. This is first time since 2013 i have to use my phone because some workers have managed to ruin the cables on my net, and this ♥♥♥♥ happens lol.. I don't have a "plan" on my phone so i have endless data :/ gah. Noticed alot of people are actually playing games like this, steam really need to sort their crap if this happens.. 5GB out of nowhere. Do i have to be paranoid and check the task manager every know and then :(

Steamworks common redistributables popped up now in the download list when i removed "pubg" in the queue.. Disabled auto update on that aswell.. Incase someone finds this thread and have/had the same issue.

What tells you how much you downloaded overnight? You phone? is it showing gb or GB?

Unless you told Steam to display speeds in bits it's showing speeds in bytes. It's 8 bits per byte 8kb = 1KB

I'm guessing your phone shows speeds in bits and not Bytes.

If you set Steams data cap at 64KB it could technically download more than 14gb or 1.8GB in 8 hours. Thus I'm guessing Steam is showing speeds in Bytes and you phone or other application showing total download size is in bis and that over night the speeds were lower than 64KB.

GIGABYTE. :) You can go under settings @ your wifi, and check how much data you used, and it's accurate because i watched the phones data. :> Windows 10 has it's own Data usage system. reliable. I have been using computer & internet since 1997 so im pretty sure i know what it says on the phone. :D Just as i wrote above, i had 15GB and it's down to 10GB, i can message my phones subs and check how much i have left, and it showed just as it said in windows 10 data useage. :|

Not sure about links here on the forums ,but i uploaded a picture of the windows 10 data useage thingie. Hope i don't get banned.

Image linking is fine. You won't get banned.

Quite often see users on here mixing up bits and bytes. I was just checking and making the distinction in case you were. Obviously Steam didn't adhere to the cap. Hopefully it didn't eat through all your data.

Yeah true, should have used GB instead of gb :p corrected it though!

if you have limit data capacity per month , then its a diffrent and you should know all network access count even status, this is what people did in old days with modem manual access line then needed. ( maybe other know app or solution with a pc that always is online through netcard.)

Don't ever rely on software limits when it's really important. Don't run software that you don't need (like Steam...), and shut down the internet connection when you don't need it.

Have you ever considered comparing plans, or check other providers?

Ya, i set a cap now.. I should really have done that from beginning, as soon as it reaches a amount it warns or shuts it down, to prevent such thing to happen again. :D But only few days left now then i get my standard net back with no limit.

I missed that part you not having data cap. Also is there a reason to limit your bandwidth?
