It's not up to you to decide for someone what they can and cannot afford.
If it was me? I could not afford that 55$ piece of equipment or a program costing the same. Why?
I don't have a job. I have to rely on other people for my life. I have good friends, I have friends with great jobs. My entire computer setup for the last decade is *cast off other people's stuff*, which I want you all to remember may or may not be available to literally anyone else.
Stop judging. Start being a touch more accepting that some folks CANNOT or indeed WILL NOT change their OS just because you believe they should. That kind of elitist crap is really really tiresome.
You can get reasonable units for less money than you expect.
Also, depending on energy costs, the right choice of "modern" things can lower the bills significantly.
And yet somehow people who are running literally 15 year old hardware are expecting steam and every other os vendor to support XP in perpetuity?
This isnt a "buy a new computer ever 2 years thing"
Also lets say you have a 10 year old computer. Ok so what is the most trash cpu you could have gotten from intel at that time. Its an i3-530 literally the first i3 ever released
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kndyk0vsTno
And again it runs windows 10. Its not great but again its a 10 year old cpu. But you can install windows 10 and make it run.
https://www.quora.com/Can-an-Intel-Pentium-Dual-Core-support-Windows-10-64-bit-efficiently
You can even get windows 10 to run on a Core2Duo from 2007. Aka windows 10 runs on devices that came out when the first iphone was released and when people had Macs that were still running PowerPC!
So functionally any hardware that's basically 12-13 years old, still can run windows 10.
Buuut theeey sellll ooooolld gamez!!!1! /s
Some people haven't got the memo that their 'fifteen year old computer' isn't SUPPOSED to be supported any more.
Maybe stop trying to tell people what they want to run, how they want to run it, and asserting that their old - and still functional - software isn't worth having any more. I assure you *it is still worth having* in a functional state.
The OP has an old computer and wanted to do something that cannot be done any longer on steam.
Why not just *say that* and shut up about how inferior their computer or OS is to you.
Nope
Thanks Zekiran for understanding.
I can say use Linux, or if able to use Windows 7, but how far back is your hardware is the question.

Also that really small amount of ram as well, your best option is Linux really with this system, if you wish to use steam for online, otherwise you're limited really bad with that system, so as long you don't update your current Steam, and keep it offline forever you be fine using it the way it is.
