How To Make Steam Recognize Games You Got Elsewhere

Let's say I downloaded Human: fall flat from IGG games.com because it was cheaper. I added it to my Steam library and Steam did not recognize it. How do I make steam recognize it?
P.S it worked on human fall flat but I don't know how or why.

If it's not the Steam version then you can only add it as a non-Steam game.

You redeemed it on Steam,

Not every game is redeemable on Steam.

You can try to add the CD-key here, were you given one (or via the client's [Activate a product through Steam]: https://store.steampowered.com/account/registerkey

Otherwise you add the game's executable as a non-Steam game

If it is not a Steam key, it will not work. Did you purchase the Switch version?
