Steam Controller Settings not working with arcade

I have been playing for a few months with an arcade stick I made (a "hitbox", which basically means it only has buttons, no stick), I didn't give me any troubles configuring it at first with steams generic controller support, xbox controller support, and etc... But all of a sudden while playing a game, all the buttons got messed up, for no reason at all, the directionals died first, then all the buttons just didn't do anything, I thought the problem was my hardware, but then I go and try to configure the controller on the "controller settings" again, and every input seems to be regitered normally, with the exception of my right button, that I normally set to "Dpad right" and it is registered as "Hat 0.x" (I don't remember the number that goes in the place of x, sorry), now is being registered as "Axis 0", for no reason, and I can't use the controller anymore because it now pushes the right direction infinitely and it also bugs a lot, does anyone know how I can trouble shoot this situation?

Same problem, only bothered with steam cause no problems with gog game (kof xiv), amazon gaming (kof 2002), and Windows.
Have you found a solution ?

Hey, so I searched a lot back then, and I don't know if you still need this, but I did not find a solution, I reinstalled Everything I could including native drivers, steam, etc... It did not work, but then steam updated to a newer version and reset controller configs, so I configured again and it was working, I don't know the causes or the exact solution of the problem, maybe it was a driver issue or something, but I cannot tell, sorry

i found the solution!
switch your stick in digital mod using the mode switch (check your pcb, use a button or make contact using a piece of metal)
the led on your pcb turns green, map your controller in steam - only right left up down, and buttons. everything work now -you see it is written HATxxx for each direction/ SAVE
Switch back to analog mode normal mode/
