Using Hotspot to Download games on Steam. Keeps dropping out! Please help.
I usually use my mobile data to download games on Steam using hotspot because my normal Internet is really slow (about 500-600 KB/s). When using my hotspot I get around 5-10 MB/s.

I have been having a problem lately where when I start downloading with my hotspot the speed rockets up to like 7 MB/s then, after about a minute or two, it slowly begins to decrease all the way down to 0 bytes and eventually my hotspot just disconnects from my computer...

I can literally just reconnect and repeat the same process but it is really annoying.

I also use my hotspot to do other stuff like play games online and watch videos and it works absolutely fine. No issues.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Is your hotspot wired or wireless?
Also, are you using your phone or a dedicated hotspot?

generally mobile providers kill steam as it takes up tons of bandwidth and thus they have blocking for steam services

Not always true, I use my phone as a hotspot, too, and I never had issues with Steam.

I'd suggest you to try to use it as a wired hotspot and see if there is any improvement.

Just because your connection doesn't drop doesn't mean OP's ISP doesn't cut his connection off. I've seen multiple cases of ISPs completely cutting connection off people when they try downloading a game even when it's through their own home network.

I'll try using a wired hotspot later tonight to see if that fixes it.

It's likely an issue with your provider and/or phone. Just go somewhere with free wifi if you're that desperate. Using your phone to download large games is going to be an exercise in futility.

* Mobile data... that is the key!

* ALL mobile devices have a data limit!
* While they may state unlimited data. That don't mean unlimited speed.
* They ALL LIE on unlimited data on mobile! That's their trick!
don't fall for it no more!

* Unlimited data.. for a certain amount of gigs. but....after that....
* Then your unlimited data is slowed down to dial-up speed. 10kb. if lucky.
* So your then on 1990's dial-up speed on your unlimited mobile.
* 5.6kb... huhuhuh! ALL MOBILE DATA LIES!

* ANY MOBILE provider lies! AND so does SATELLITE providers!
They all lie! and they get away with it by saying unlimited data.
For they did not say unlimited speed. So they all get away with it.
So yeah.. unlimited data at 10kb.. lol! yeah.. download all u need LOL!
A real good scam they ALL have going.. and has been going on for over a decade.

I been there on a 3g mobile net... after 5gb your downloading speed goes to nothing.

Now I have real net... it has a limit of 1 terabyte lol!
No way in heck i could ever download so much! lol!
I usually top around 100gb+.. O_O haha.. .streamin shows/movies/games and all.

So yeah.. hit up a wifi hotspot to get ur games on.... I been there before.
Back in the day.. I used to get all my tvshows and movies from there.. ;-)
Thanks free wifi hotspot! hehehe....I surely thank it indeed. fo sho...

My capped data rate is quite a bit higher than that...

It's technically not a lie since they give you unlimited data (even at slow speed).
