Where are CD keys?
I don't see any of them available. You are still given the option to redeem them, but no information on where the existing ones you have redeemed are located. I have the new menu, is this something that you can't see unless you downgrade to an older steam menu?

Steam does not show CD keys for games unless they may be needed for 3rd party logins.
99.99% of all games on Steam dont need those so keys are not shown.
There is no use for a key after buying/activating a game, its forever bound to that account anyway and can never be removed or used again.
So what point is there in displaying them?
Redeem on GOG? Regardless I was able to, for example, see the keys for my DLC, plain and clear before the UI was updated. Isn't it also a way of verifying if the key is legitemate in cases where a game does not work?

I hate when people ask me about whether I would actually need something I am looking for. I am looking for it, period. If you have no clue as to where it could be and just want to comment on why I want it, you are just wasting my time.

And yet, he's right. If the game needs you to have the CD key, you'll be able to see it. If not, you can't. As simple as that.

I don't and didn't need the keys for the Don't Starve DLC, yet I could still see that. Explain that? I have not got a single game that I have "bought" on steam that has required me to enter a redeem code, only previously I have had a message pop up saying that "when the game asks, this is the key you want to redeem", and that was for Don't Starve when I had any of the DLC installed.

So the keys are there, they exist, but where are they? Nowhere that I can view, even though I could before? Should I request them from Valve then if I want them?

If for instance I bought Rain World on Steam, but wanted to redeem the code on GOG to get a DRM-free version (not requiring Steam client), then would I be able to get the game with the CD key? Because the game is available on GOG as well.

They showed stuff before that confused people as there was no use for it. So its simplified so you only see a CD key if you actually need it.

Doesn't work that way, if you buy it on steam it only redeems on steam. You can't buy it on steam and redeem on multiple platforms just like you can't buy it on GoG and redeem it on steam.

Again, Steam does not, and never has, give you CD keys for your purchases. Any CD key that you viewed in the library was put there by the publisher of that game, because it was needed for something. That option still exists.

If the publisher wants to bundle a GOG key with their Steam purchases they can do so, although it's quite unlikely since there is no way to ensure that it's just YOU using that key. They would basically give you an independent second license with your purchase. Thus, if a publisher wants to give YOU a GoG license for your Steam game, they would probably just talk to GoG instead and have them add it to GoG Connect or something like that.
Also if a game has a needed CD Key when you right click on the game and click manage you will see an option for the CD key in the list. Again, that only shows when the CD key is needed for something, not for every game.
I would have figured that if you have a steam key, and there was a way to activate it on GOG as well, you could only activate it once on both, so if you activate it on steam, but give someone else to activate it on GOG, only one of you would have a DRM-free version, or you could only activate an already-activated key on GOG if you are logged into an account linked with your Steam account that has the key activated. That is in part how it is with Don't Starve for Standalone versions of it, if you have bought it on Steam, with the exception of the Hamlet DLC as of right now. Because of issues with the redeem code, I have had to contact the developer (Klei) about it, as the key for the game itself was no longer loading.
That's not how it works, though. When you choose to buy it on a platform it doesn't give you that game on another *competitor's* platform.

You cannot 'give a key' to someone else for the same game, it's 1 person = 1 game = 1 account. Otherwise that's called 'piracy'.

It's piracy if you make multiple copies of it to distribute to other people. In the case of DRM yes, you cannot copy it over anywhere, even on your own accounts of other platforms. GOG is DRM-free, and since both Steam and GOG are both:

* On PC
* Have redeemable keys
* Share available games

I figured any game, or at least select number of games (the latter of which is true) that you could redeem a code for on Steam, might be usable on GOG to get a DRM-free version of. If Don't Starve allows it for standalone, it could be similarly done with Steam and GOG.

GOG only allows this for literally only EIGHT GAMES

Otherwise you have to roll the lottery with GOG Connect which happens infrequnely and if you miss the window too bad

Dont starve doesnt allow this. You've been grossly misinformed or mislead

I wasn't talking about Steam keys to GOG, I was talking about Steam keys to Standalone; Klei gives you the option to get Standalone version of their game from their own website, including 2/3 of the game's DLCs if you have bought the game and/or the respective DLCs on Steam. I had issues not too long ago with getting the key for the game to open up, so I contacted Klei to help me out, and I got my standalone version of the game, along with the first 2 DLC.

But what is this "GOG Connect lottery window" you speak of?

I guess my issue technically fits in here, so I'll just add to this one instead of creating my own thread...

I have 2 separate Keys for a game and want to give one away, so naturally I'd like to see which one I activated for myself.

Could I just try to "activate" the game again and see what the client's response is?

Just give both keys to the person and see which one works for them lol
That doesn't answer the question though, plus I don't want to give away the key I used if I don't have to (which I shouldn't...).
