FYI Publishers use DOSbox to emulate their games, which why they're still selling DOS games on Steam, and GoG if you somehow didn't know. Such as Doom, Star Wars dark force, Duke nukem 1 and 2, list goes on....
Yeah, curious about that. DOS BOX has been the standard for playing very old games for years, i mean GOG versions of DOS games all include and run on DOS BOX and i never had a problem with it in all my years.
Whats supposed to not be save about it?
Also QUAKE game has still on Steam Store and that's why I buy that game. It's my favorite game.
Also. No need for answer about DOSbox, and now I know that everythyng. :)
Actually Windows 2000, XP, successive versions are Windows NT and aren't DOS based and don't have native DOS support, which is why DOS Box existed well before Windows 7.
Then you don't want to play DOS games that badly. Trying to run DOS games in an OS that doesn't support DOS has problems. Trying to run an ancient and insecure OS that does support DOS also has problems.
And not recommended for you, by whom?
And it's safe. Safe as any other random program you probably download and run without worrying. Like Steam. Or 7-zip. Or Notepad++. It's just software that lets you run old DOS games that won't run natively in modern Windows. And the project has been under development for nearly 18 years. If it wasn't safe that would be fairly common knowledge by now.
