[SOLVED] Signing Into Google On In-Game Browser
Recently I changed my password on the google account I had signed into the in-game browser. I have had this account signed in for years, and everything worked fine. Now, when I try signing in, google won't let me, because of some new policy where they don't allow in-built browsers. Is there any way to circumvent this and sign in again on the in-game browser? It's really annoying not having easy access to YouTube (I've never realised how many things are age-restricted before this) and docs etc while in-game.

I HAVE FOUND A FIX:

1) Go to C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\<profile number>

2) Copy the file "Cookies".

3) Paste the file into C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Steam\htmlcache

4) Overwrite the current file.

This overwrites the steam browser's stored cookies to that of your chrome browser. If you are signed in on chrome, you will now be signed in on the steam browser. Not sure if this works with other browsers, but as long as cookies are enabled I don't see why it wouldn't.

in Windows 10 for me 1. was C:\Users\souma\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data

rest are all good.. working for me now.

Before replacing the Cookies, you have to close the steam first. Otherwise it will not allow you to replace the file.

Whenever a profile on chrome is created, a folder is created for this profile under that directory. It stores information including the cookies.

For example, my file directory is C:\Users\<my name>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Profile 13

(Omitting my name for privacy).

If you have only ever created one profile, the folder might be called Profile 0 or Profile 1.

Can this get my Steam broken or closed or banned or something negative?

This has not worked for me at all. It is annoying and I am experimenting with ways around that safe browser bogus as there is nothing wrong with allowing it. Google is just being nepotistic.

what's the <profile number> folder ? there is not this folder in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\ and no "cookies" file in this folder neither only "Safe Browsing Cookies" or "Safe Browsing Cookies diary"

You cannot connect an existing Google account through the Steam browser at the time of writing. Personally, I was helped by creating a new Google account in the Steam overlay , this is so far the only option to use a Google / YouTube account in the Steam overlay. Moreover, if, for some reason, you log out of your Google account in the Steam overlay itself, then you will not be able to log back in and you will have to make a new account again as I wrote above.

The text has been translated from another language, so I apologize for any mistakes.

for me steam replaces the cookies file with it's own file whenever starting steam, so that replacing file does not work for me
