"Play" button keeps getting stuck as a glowing blue steam icon?

This keeps happening to my play button for Prey. I have to close the Steam client to get it to come back. What is this?

Is your computer physically capable of playing that game? Because that's telling me that it's 'thinking super hard' about whether any of the precaches and whatnot are able to load.

Try disabling precaching? (I think it's a settings option, rather than per-game properties?)
My PC is more than capable of running the game. I've got an FX-8450 and an RTX 2070. It happens after the game's been running.

Just because you believe your system is monster doesn't mean it's got the right drivers installed or has software that otherwise may interfere.

Did you do as I suggested, first off? Because ... while you might think your rig is great, obviously something is not working as intended. Get the normal stuff out of the way first, then if that doesn't work we can start working down to other fixes.

Also did you go to the game's forum and see if anyone else is having that specific issue? I haven't run prey in a while so I don't have any idea if it's overall or just for you.

Strong GPU, very, very weak CPU. What clocks are you running the CPU? Temps?

Do you mean Phenom X3 8450 or FX 8350 ??
Oops. 8350. It's stopped doing it as of now.

Ah. Make the CPU your next upgrade, the 8350 is the bare minimum for modern games. Ryzen 5 3600+B450 Tomahawk Max+2x8GB 3200mhz RAM.
Yeah, I'll get there. I was running this CPU with a 970 though. Priorities.

Does this happen when you exit the game or randomly when you have not launched the game?

Any game I have which utilizes Steam Cloud does this when I exit the game. It is the Steam Cloud syncing.
It's after I exit. I considered it might be a sync, but normally when a game is syncing, it says so in the left panel and displays a percentage. It's just weird.

Does it happen with other games or just Prey?

Clear caches?

When the game is running that button changes to cancel or stop or something - looks like that isnt loading or the play button loading back for some reason.
Never noticed it on any other game. I'll have to check it while it's running. The first couple times, I just closed Steam and reopened it. I walked away from it and let it go after I made this post. It did eventually go back to "Play," and hasn't done this since.

Just had the same issue.

It's a sync function of Steam. They're backing up local files to the cloud to ensure you can play from anywhere.

If it lasts a while it's probably some kind of server side lag, a bad connection or you can try re-logging into steam.
