games no longer running on Windows 7 64 bit
Starting Dec 2019, I have begun to have difficulty launching my games, games that I have played for years. They all crash on startup. I have restarted my computer multiple times and still they won't start. I know that Win 7 support is no longer being maintained by Microsoft.

Anyone else having this problem?

Edit: I also do understand my rig is around 8 years old and might be wearing out.

Which games? Certain ones are dropping Win 7 support.

System specs?

And yeah, consider upgrading to 10.

Yeah this isn't a pervasive issue, as I have w7/64 and zero problems with my games.

Are you getting any error messages with the crash? A while back I was haveing an issue where games I'd played before suddenly started crashing on launch with an error that traced back to directX. For a while the only way I could play them was to disable the software for my razer mouse, reinstall DirectX, launch the game, and then turn the software back on. Later I discovered it was the heatmap module of the software and had to forcibly remove that as it was damaging something in directX.

Hm. Lets first do all available windows updates, then head to your motherboard website's support page and download and run all driver updates. For GPU updates only, first use DDU in safe mode to uninstall old drivers, then reinstall directly from the GPU manufacturer. If using Nvidia do not install GFE, just clean install drivers and physx.

Yeah check drivers, and check to see any firewall or virus scanners that may have updated. Because I have like, 3/4 of those games and they certainly run fine on my machine which is as I said a 64 bit w7.

In the event that your drivers and firewalls are all fine... I'd start looking at damaged hardware, it might be time to get a new drive.

Yep, lets rule out drivers first. And to rule out overheating use HW Monitor while running a demanding game for 15-20 mins. If you can't run a GRAPHICALLY demanding game, use Prime95 and Furmark to put load on the CPU/GPU.

Thanks so far. I found 4 optional win7 updates. My Nvidia Geforce is updated, already checked that. I do plan to get a new computer soon, but I would like to enjoy my games until then.

No error messages, just locking up.

This may want to be looked at too

Why not install the Geforce experience? My games ran fine with it.

As far as overheating, I don't know. When I get a game to start, it's perfectly fine. It's just when it launches it freezes up.

GFE is bloatware and spyware, uninstall it. Drivers updates should always be done manually. Please follow all of my steps carefully, then let me know. Uninstal GFE too, it messes with the drivers, just google if it’s bad or good, many people have my same opinion.

Seem to be good now. I'm playing Borderlands 2.
Thanks all.
