Big Picture Mode on Startup? PLEASE NO!!!!
I don't know why it's doing this crap, but my hardware cannot run Big Picture, and I have no reason to run Big Picture, but this makes the Steam client and all my games and software completely inaccessible.

I submitted a help ticket, but knowing Valve, they'll wait forever to reply back to me. Well, I'm not waiting five, ten weeks. (at most a few days)

So, anyway, there's nothing I can do on my end about my hardware (on disability my funds are limited to mostly bills), and I'm not going to live in misery, so I don't want Big Picture to run, ever. If anyone can tell me how to make Steam stop trying to load the stupid feature on startup, please, don't withhold the info, because I will delete my account if I don't get a valid answer.

I'm pissed off, and rightfully so. I can't access my games or software via a web browser; only the forums. I hate this, dammit!!!!!!!!!!!!

Addendum:
I dunno why people are reading this and replying to it now; I don't even have the PC that this was being problematic with (it was stolen), and I solved the issue a long time ago anyway (like back in January 2020). I am going to unsubscribe from this discussion thread.

PROBLEM: STEAM CRASH ON STARTUP == NO ACCESS TO OPTIONS

"D3D Device was removed due to DXGI_ERROR_DRIVER_INTERNAL_ERROR, this usually indicates a bad device driver or may indicate bad hardware. Big Picture must exit."

Fine, Big Picture. Exit, but let Steam start.

I have a 2008 DELL. I was ripped off by Action Computers (I know this now but had no way of knowing this back then), and on disability, I haven't the means to acquire new hardware, on my own. Valve did this by forcing the option on in an update because LAST DAMN NIGHT STEAM WAS RUNNING JUST FINE AND I DON'T MESS WITH THOSE OPTIONS.

Nope. There would be far more users complaining about it if that were the case.

Obviously, Valve did; the method you linked to might of worked in 2013, IT SURE DOESN'T WORK NOW!!!!

...

Okay. Thank you, Killo Zapit, for aiding me.

could try launching Steam with the
-no-browser
option (add it to the end of the Target field of Steam's shortcut). I vaguely recall one of the effects is breaking BPM

I knew there had to be some command line option for this, but I didn't see it in the docs.

Obviously they did not, as there was no recent client update and nobody else has this issue.
Far more likely that you may have accidentally checked the box.

Big Picture Mode on Startup? PLEASE NO!!!!

If anyone knows a Fix for this, i'd like to know how to fix this...

Temporarily I have had to Remove my PS3 Controller from my
PC, this ERROR does not come up anymore after removing my
Controller... But it is only a Temporary Fix, & i'd like to have a
more Permanent Fix for this...

While yours is linked to Auto Start-Up, mine is Linked to anytime
I visit Big Picture Mode under the Controller Configs...

This does not necessarily mean that you have a bad Driver Installed,
It might even mean that you just simply have an Older Driver
Installed, & that the System just doesn't know what to do with the
Installed Driver, so it gives this ERROR for it, instead...

My Driver does in fact work, & i've used my PS3 Controller before
on STEAM, & have done it more then once, but for some reason
if I unplug it even 1nce, anytime I plug it in after it's unplugged,
I get this issue on the PC, the ERROR that was Stated by the
Poster of this Discussion...

PS:
Also, as i'm aware of, Windows 10 does not recognize changes
to Auto-Start UP of APP's, so if you accidentally turn that On,
I do not know if Turning it Off will have any Effect on your
Computer being Turned On, or Rebooted in the Future...

This is why, I never let anything be set to Auto-Start with Boot-Up,
it does not matter if it's Booting with Windows, or Booting with some
other means, just as long as it's an Auto-Start Function being
activated, I have not found any way to have it deactivated without
some form of Tampering with Files to have it done...

This has been a problem since, probably Windows 7, or possibly
Vista, I am not sure, but as far as I know, it was never Fixed,
earlier Versions of Windows never had this issue before...

Actually, I think the problem is increasing more and more with Windows 11 having come out. All my drivers are up to date. And it's the same for Op so yeah. And my system is set up in French. so not really helpful for me.

Restart windows in safe mode.
This is to force your motherboard gpu to take over (if you have one) and not your primary gpu.
steam should probably start in big picture.
then you exit big picture and change the setting to not have big picture.

-nobigpicture WOOOOOOOORKS!!!!!! Solved!!
Step 1: Go to Steam installation folder
Step 2: Right-click steam.exe create shortcut
Step 3: Right-click shortcut on Target box add -nobigpicture
DONE! Normal login window - day is good.
