New to Steam
When I open my bootstrapper client I can't see or access anything. If i go to big picture mode everythings works normally. However both games I purchased drop graphics output after about 2 minutes of playing time. not hardware its only with steam games and nothing else. WTF? over

Well what are your specs, and version of Windows? What games? Have you updated your drivers or anything? Have you tried running Steam as admin? What have you tried?

OP you only have 2GB on your pagefile, increase it to 1.5x your physical RAM.
GuRu Asaki 29 DIC 2019 a las 17:45
How does Increasing the Size help?

Also, what happens if you clean it out?

So that It's Empty? & starts to get bigger again?

Can this help speed things up at all?

I wouldn't worry too much, I've been using Steam for 15 years. It's generally been fine in my experience.

In the future you can coy the game folders to another location to back them up and plop them back in. Install the game to the location the game folder exists and Steam should detecting pre-existing game files and will just verify them, download anything missing. Saves quite a bit of time. And/or in another case if you and a roommate/spouse are both going to be playing a game with a large install (separate accounts and licenses), you can download it once and copy the files over the network to save bandwidth using that same strategy.

If you decided to micromanage your page file, don't. Just let Windows manage it (the default setting). And if you haven't ever fiddled with those settings notkennyS might be jumping the gun. Just because the page file isn't 24GB doesn't mean it's limited. After all I have 16GB of RAM and my pagefile is less than 8GB and that would just appear to be normal behavior, it's only as big as it needs to be.

Yall'r analyzing this way too much. Steam uses a lot of memory. The bootstrapper is not the client. Shut down absolutely everything you're running other than the Steam Client and then try launching your games. Turn off and shut down:

- Virus scanners
- Firewalls
- Hardware and temperature monitors
- Tweaking utilities
Shut off absolutely everything except Windows and the Steam Client tasks. Then try your game(s).

Try it as a test.

I don't mean that... I just meant... If my Paging File is Full,
& i'd like to clean some of it out, to get a more Fresh
smaller Paging File Size, & have the Computer re-page
some of the Cache on the PC?

This is not a good idea?

You know, like how people clean out Temp Files, Cache Files on the Internet...
We should not do this for the Paging Cache?

You don't need to intervene on behalf of your pagefile. Windows can handle it better than you can.

No. You don't need to worry about it.

All of what you're describing is trying to micromanage something Windows has been doing fine for years and years without you having to worry over it.

I agree. Don't mess with your page file. Here is a good article that explains what the page file is and does. Editing the size of the page file really doesn't do a whole lot for running games. Programs, and webpages, yes. Games...not so much.
https://www.howtogeek.com/126430/htg-explains-what-is-the-windows-page-file-and-should-you-disable-it/

For example people who are extremely savvy with some Adobe suite applications create a dedicated page file for the programs they use often that they find might be taking a while to compile something they created. That is where creating a dedicated swap file (page file) can be of benefit freeing up RAM the program can use to compile a video or very high resolution and/or detailed image faster. A dedicated page file might be possible to create for a game, whether the game uses it or not is another thing. Adobe suite applications are set up so if they have a dedicated page file they use it when it's needed.

If the windows page file is made the wrong size or too large bad things can happen or it can have the opposite effect than what was intended.

Don't mess with the page file.

I still think everyone else here is over analyzing and over thinking this. The OP is quite obviously running hardware monitors due to the details they shared. Those kinds of things can be shut down to conserve RAM and allow the game to use that RAM instead. They don't need to be running all of the time. They're troubleshooting and diagnostics tools, they're only really needed if and when there are problems. Shut some of that un-necessary stuff off, as a test shut the anti-virus program off. If those changes make a positive effect make sure the anti-virus is not interrupting the game you're running by telling it not to (create an exception).

Changing system files isn't the solution for this.

I have 16 gigs of ram and another 8 on the graphics card. RAM should not be an issue. How do i increase the RAM on my pagefile?

I am still having the same problem with the game video crashing about 1-2 minutes into playing. it doesn't seem to matter how I set the graphics. It makes no difference to the performance or time it takes to crash.

Use HW Monitor and run a demanding game for 15-20 mins then report back the max temperatures.
