Play Minecraft (Bedrock) from Steam Libary + Gamepad Support (+Steam LInk)
Minecraft Bedrock for PC
Windows 10
Xbox360 Wired Controller
SteamLink
Additional Software: UWPHook (freeware)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I set up this post because i wanted to play Minecraft from my Steam Libary and boy did I not know what a pain in the ♥♥♥ it would be to get this ♥♥♥♥♥how on the road, so i wanna share my experiences here. Maybe and hopefully there are other ways this works for you but in my case it did not.

To get Minecraft Bedrock Edition under Win10 the hell in my steam libary it was necessary to download a program called "UWPHook" ... easy to set up and does the job ... EVERYTHING ELSE FAILED. Thx UWPHook!
Minecraft in Steam Libary: CHECK :lunar2019piginablanket:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So after that i tasted sweet victory on my tongue and I was on my way to preccious Minecraft - Land. Or at least so i thought! Way to punch someone in the nuts, steam! Problem was that my crontroller did not work propperly. Sure you can do it with mouse and keyboard but not so via STEAMLINK. One of the issues i had, was that when i wanted to jump (Button A) it opended the Chat menu. Yeah thats exactly what you want ... chat instead of jump! Very good! :Burn:

Here is some stuff i tried:
Set gamepad controls in Minecraft! ... nothing happens
Curse extensively!
Set gamepad controls in BIGPICTURE mode ... nothing happens
Cry for vengeance. :Burn:
Mock god!
Search the web! Try some more stuff ... nothing happens
Kick a pillow!
Threaten gamepad :steal:
Find a post from a Overwatch forum describing the exact issues i have!
ISSUE seems to be the Steam Controller Mappings from Big Picture Mode (even if you dont run Minecraft from Steam Libary this is a thing. Its enough to have Steam and Minecraft run at the same time!).
A way to solve this would be to close steam ... but thats not gonna cut here.
Here is what actually worked:

Run MINECRAFT with propper GAMEPAD Support from STEAMLIBARY:
Go: BigPicture - Settings - Controller Section: Controller Settings:
(Uncheck) Xbox - Configuration Support (that actually is my gamepad which i unchecked!!)
(Check) Playstation - Configuration Support (Note: i dont have a ps controller!!)
 NOW the GAMEPAD actually did what it should do in Minecraft playing from
my Desktop. Don't know why tough ... makes no sense at all!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Run MINECRAFT with propper GAMEPAD Support via STEAMLINK
1. Enter BIGPicture
2. Dont bother configuring your gamepad under Minecraft specifically for the game! It wont make a difference! At least i did not for me!
3. Go: Libary, Minecraft, Manage Shortcuts, Controller Options: CHECK "Allow Desktop Configuration in Launcher"
4. Go: BigPicture Settings - Controller: Base Configurations - Desktop Configuration
Here Define the layout of your gamepad to match mouse & keyboard - play. I took the controls from the MineCraft - Mouse & Keyboard - Settings.

Here are my MAPPINGS:
steam://controllerconfig/413080/1951773263

 NOW the GAMEPAD works also when playing via SteamLink. No clue why the gamepad configuration you can set for game any game specifically did not work ... that would have spared me a lot of trouble and i wouldn't have had to take this detour but
now after all this unnecessary ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (yey cursing!) i can finaly play Minecraft via Steamlink from my couch without passing out in rage. And it took me only hours ... well: penny saved is a penny ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

Hai! I just wanted to comment on your tutorial because it was super helpful in helping me with my similar issues!

I got everything working EXCEPT the sprint function on my controller. I'm currently using a Switch Pro controller with PS4 configuration support like you suggested and even when tinkering with controller mapping in-game I could not re-map the sprint button to ANYTHING.

Quite frustrating.

If you think of anything to help me out I'll just have to go back to playing with keyboard and mouse. I hope this sprint glitch hasn't affected your new setup as it is really nice when things just work!

All the best,
Hi Buddy! Glad i could "almost" help! i know these kinda things can be such a pain in the ass! I ceased playing minecraft for the moment (waiting for the next update), but back than it worked fine ... also sprinting. I just found out i can share my mapping ... there is actually a feature for that :praisesun: STEAM :praisesun: :gladys:

Here are my MAPPINGs:
steam://controllerconfig/413080/1951773263
hope it helps!

I spent hours trying to get my SC working, after reading your thread i finally got it. Using your controller profile was key - thank you *so* much Ed!

Can't post a guide to a game that isn't sold on Steam, dude.
Hi, I followed all steps suggested here, except for a slightly different configuration on parts of the controller. My controller is definitely connecting to steam, because I can use the controls in the configuration window. However, once I launch minecraft in big picture mode, the controller stops working at all. Do you have any idea why?
Info that might be helpful:
When I launch the program from Big Picture Mode, it exits steam and launches the game in a separate window.
My controller is connected through bluetooth.
I have an HP with Windows 10.

Thanks so much!!
Hey Lizzard! Do you use SteamLink or do you just want to play Minecraft via Steam on you PC?

These days, playing on PC i do it like this:

Settings - "Controller" Base Configurations - Desktop Configuration:
Unbind Controller (steam://controllerconfig/413080/2480361741)

Start Minecraft ... Works like a gem. But i ceased to start minecraft via Steam but with Steam
running in the background and it does not interfere because it seems even withouth BiGPicture - Mode it forces the Desktop Config on everything thats going on while Steam is active.

Again I really dont know whats going on but here and there something seems to stick when testing different settings so hope you can use some this! :happycthulhu:
