(SOLVED- view for help) Winter Event Check List: Invite Friend Quest- NOT WORKING

So I have been doing the quests for winter sale every day. Today's quest is to invite a friend to a game lobby via steam overlay (shift+tab). No matter how many times I try this, or in what way, it is not working.

I correctly did this using the game Stick Fighter, invited a friend to the game lobby via the steam over lay, and we even played for a while. Still did not check off my quest.

We tried on Rocket League where he invited me from in the game, tried to send invites from steam overlay, we do not understand why we are having this problem.

Anyone who has completed this quest can you tell me EXACTLY how you did it?
Or has anyone else had this problem and figured out how to fix it?

I would be very upset to loose out on the badge that comes from completing all quests just because one is glitched out for me

Tried all of this and still no go. I even tried running the same game which worked for my kid's account. Even swapped logons (mine on their comp, them on mine) and still nothing even with exact same game.

Valve needs to just fix this broken .

For me, installing Team Fortress 2, then inviting my kid's account from in that game worked.
Whereas from my kid's account what worked was starting Visceral Cleanup Detail and using the Steam Overlay to do the invite.

The fact that so many people have to go through so many different games and through so many different methods to get this to work with very few methods reasonably repeatable shows how poorly planned, coded, and debugged this was.

Apparently keep trying different games and methods.
Consistently working code with repeatable results is not high on the Valve agenda.
One can see by my playlist I tried many games today including some of the often recommended free ones before finally getting something to work. I still think that may be by pure chance too.

Managed to get it with Goblin Gearshop. Just had to invite someone. They didn't even have to join and it gave it to me.

yep remote play worked like a charm. Btw, the feature itself is pretty cool and i never noticed it.

I was frustrated with this... It just says," Invite a friend to a game via Steam overlay" when it needs to say," invite a friend to remote play", would have made everyone's lives easier. I got it after the advice at the begging on this post. What you need to do is different from what it says.

Glimmer's solution worked for me.

Steam -> Settings -> Remote play. Make sure Enable remote play is checked.
Go to your library.
Click on Advanced filtering options (It's next to the search field in the top left corner)
Click the box Remote Play Together.
-This shows any games in your library that supports Remote play-
Start any supported game -> Go to overlay -> Right click on someone in your friends list -> Remote Play Together (Right underneath the cursed Invite to lobby).

You, and your friend, have to be online (Not invisible). They do not have to accept the invite.

Thanks Glimmer it worked great and really too easy. Now I have a free game play as well lol
Its not all that different from MP invite to lobby?
adding that game uses controller and I get the tick without using controller just had to use the main menu thats all.

I was able to do this by inviting to remote play on Left 4 dead 2. The friend did not even have to accept.
