"Invite a Friend to Play a Game" quest for dummies

Oh boy, Steam is really pushing its social options this sale. Another day, another horrible daily quest. Here's how to get it even if you don't have any friends, don't want to bother them for such tripe or are just plain lazy:

Step 1: Open a game with multiplayer options (see below list for example).

Step 2: Alt+tab back to Steam, open "Settings" in the Steam menu. Go to "Remote Play" tab.

Step 3: Tick the "Enable Remote Play" box. Or leave it ticked if it was already enabled.

Step 4: Press "OK" at the bottom of the settings page to confirm and close it.

Step 5: Open your "Friends & chat menu" (normally bottom right of Steam window).

Step 6: Pick a friend - any friend - in the list. He does't have to be online, or even have been online in the past 10 years (yes, even dead accounts work. I used a former account my brother used for hoarding expired coupons ages ago).

Step 7: Right click said friends' name and a wild pop-up menu appears.

Step 8: Choose "Remote Play together".

Step 9: A new window pops up to let you know an invite has been sent. That's all - the invitation does not have to be accepted!

You now have the daily quest. Cancel the open windows and go back to actually having fun.

Remember to join us again tomorrow for yet another worthless quest: "Make a random stranger your new friend and send him a 100$ Steam gift code".

Edit: if it doesn't work, it's because some games are picky. When in doubt, try it with a game that has the "Remote Play Together" option explicitly listed in its features list on the store page (the little list with links like "singleplayer," "achievements", trading cards", ...)

There are as of now 4,070 games in that category, so plenty of choice. Here are some EXAMPLES:

- Left 4 Dead 1 and2
- Portal 1 and2
- Rocket League
- all the Half Life games
- SOMA
- Guacalemelee 1 and 2
- Magicka 1 and2
- Trine 1, 2, 3 and 4
- Party Hard 1 and 2
- basically all Serious Sam FPS
- Age Of Wonders 3 (given away for free recently)
- Lego Star Wars (given away for free several times)
- Amnesia 1/2 (given away for free several times)
- Overgrowth (given away plenty of times)
- And even free games like Battle For Wesnoth, Brawlhalla and Awesomenauts 2D

What game were you using for the task?
Are you using the old Library UI?

Thx m8. I just found out that and did this with 1000 spikes on Friend inactive from 2 yeras now

I finally got it to give me the check mark even though remote play gave me errors.

I downloaded Team Fortress 2
Went to the in game friend list (Not the overlay friend list but the one inside the game itself)
Clicked on a friend and invited them to join me.

Despite my remote play error TF2 worked for me. Hope posting this will help others getting a remote play error.

If you guys dont have "Settings" menu in steam - its family view mode. Goblin gearshop works in all ways well. Thx for post.
