Invite your friend to a remote play together session and it'll work.
They don't even have to join it or anything.

This is what I had to do to get it to work. Started up CS:GO. Hit Alt-Tab to bring up the overlay. Ignore the friends list window and invite to game someone from the actual overlay. When they accepted, the task was complete.

It's not working for me either. Tried 2 different games now, but nothing.

The only way I got it working was starting a game that supports Remote Play Together and invite a friend.

Do they have to accept the invite for it to work?

Also, do both parties get tokens if just one invites the other, or do they both have to send invites to each other in order for both of them to get tokens?

Launch a local multiplayer game. (brawlhala is a really small and free game that works for this) go to the overlay in game and right click on a user and in the same window you normally invite someone to your game it should also be an additional button called ''invite to remote play together'' just click that and you're done.

No they don't, both parties just have to send one invite each to each other.

I'm compiling a list of games that DO work and games that DON'T. it seems that out of a fairly exhausting games in the Steam catalogue, only 4 games are confirmed to be eligible for the objective.
