Alternatives to long ♥♥♥ Ethernet cables?
So I recently moved to a new house and had my "router-in-a-modem" moved here too. It's already been setup and works fine but with one exception. Sometimes when I play online games, my internet would go out. I would still be connected to my Wifi but there is no internet. So far, this has always been fixed by troubleshooting it, but the fact it happens regularly and frequently is pretty annoying. The problem always seems to be "default gateway is not available". I tried one or two solutions so far (changing the network adapter settings so it wouldn't turn off the wireless adapter to save power for example) but none has worked so far.

This is same modem I used before in my previous home with no issues, so I'm not sure what is going on. The only difference is that in my old house, I used a Ethernet cable to directly connect my laptop to the modem, whereas I use Wifi at the new house, since the cable isn't long enough to connect them anymore because the router/modem is on the first floor and my laptop is on the second floor. There might be something wrong with my wireless card but I have no way of knowing unless I take apart the laptop, which runs the risk of damaging it, since the disassembly process for it isn't straight forward.

So far this only happens with online games (really just Garry's Mod since that's the only online game I've been playing recently), I haven't caught it happening any other time so far. Not sure if there is a particular reason for that.

I can just buy a longer Ethernet cable but it will be a challenge to snake it around without being obstructive since I can't drill any holes in this place.

TP Link AV500 google it. Ethernet included.
Have you something like powerline?
Probably water pipes in the way. Get a repeater or a powerline adapter.

And try forwarding UDP ports.

No, but I'll consider it, seems straight forward.
do you have good wifi signal on your laptop? (some thick brick walls can reduce signal significantly; if its weak signal, then wifi repeater is good choice, maybe newer router if that-one is old)
or check if it signal drop-outs dont corelate with anything (or i had router that didnt like some DNS and often needed to switch those)

From what I can see, the Wifi signal is good (5 full bars). Not sure about the second part.
