I have been having trouble purchasing a total of 6 games as a gift for a friend. I have an amount within my steam wallet that would exceed the cost of purchase and I am attempting to purchase the gift through the steam wallet. One of these games I already have in my library and I am attempting to gift a second purchase. Every time I have tried to review and finalize the purchase, I am met with the error, "An unexpected error has occurred. Your purchase has not been completed. Please contact Steam Support." I was told by the support to use the website or application depending on which one I had the error with. I have tried to use 3 different browsers including Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Brave on two different computers. My internet connection is secure and remains connected. I have been attempting the same things every hour for the past 3 hours. Is there anything else I can do or are the steam servers being flooded right now due to the holidays?

I'm running into a similar issue with a different error message. "There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance."

At first I thought it was my payment info since I never updated my billing address after a recent move, but I get the same error message even when I try to update that. The support ticket has been submitted, so here's hoping.

EDIT: I finally found the issue. It seems there's a bug with certain coupons. Removing the 33% off Yakuza Kiwami 2 coupon worked for me.

Though if i'm to weigh my opinion in on the anti-scamming mechanisms put in place with the Steam Wallet, it seems like it'll encourage people to use legit key markets for gifting rather than using Steam directly

I bought my games with a gift card, and they got back to me a day or two later. A dude named Ryan said it looked like I was able to buy my gifts, however he failed to read the new message I sent asking for a refund on the amount I dumped into my steam wallet. Will be messaging support again.

I think it might be because lots of people are taking advantage of the Winter Sale, but I've been trying for three days now and I still can't buy the games I want.

This is not the case, Steam put some kind of restriction on your profile and the only way to have it removed is by asking steam support. They don't tell anyone about it though so it's really scummy. As long as you haven't tried to abuse the gifting system before, or any system for that matter, you should be fine to have it removed.

Most you can do is to contact support about the issue, hope you don't get a "pls don't violate the ssa plskthx" message and defer to credit cards for gift purchases.

Yes, this is the case, i asked steam support and they updated my account so i can buy gifted games now.. Why is Valve/Steam doing this?? Its not a good thing.
