Error-126 (and troubleshooting)
Before you ask, yes I have tried diagnosing the problem but I have had no luck.

So essentially I keep getting error -126 when I try to view the steam store. I can get around this by clicking the beck arrow and for some reason it actually loads but I can't play online on games like Halo Master Chief Collection.

This may have to do with a larger issue with my computer so if that's the case I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with it. Here's the gist: aside from Steam, my wi-fi is getting kind of strange. I can access YouTube and--of course--these forums just fine. But when I want to check email or upload to YouTube or Wattpad I get errors. Here's the two errors I keep getting:

-ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
-ERR_SSL_BAD_RECORD_MAC_ALERT

I've been having these problems (in *and* out of Steam) for the past two months. Until now I could just wait these problems out and they'd just stop for whatever reason, but ever since I returned home from university for winter break I have not been able to wait out these problems. I've tried troubleshooting, updating my drivers, updating my computer, and looking up if anyone has had these problems before throughout the past two months and even asked one of my friends what I should do (they told me to update my drivers, which didn't work) but I can't find anything that helps.

As you can see, I'm not exactly technologically savvy and I'm not even sure if this thread will post (NOTE: it did not but I managed to copy this to my google docs, which I accessed on my phone) but if any of you could help me I would appreciate it greatly.

I had same issue. To resolve, go to task manager, End all processes that has killer in it's name. This should do. I had this issue for quite a while until I found this somewhere. Hope it helps

Go to your motherboard website and reinstall all drivers. Go directly to the manufacturer (AMD, Intel), for chipset drivers. For GPU drivers, use DDU in safe mode to uninstall old drivers and disable windows ability to handle updates then clean reinstall from Nvidia/AMD. If using Nvidia don't install GFE.

I’m going to try doing that if I can but at this moment I can’t access the websites that’ll allow me to do that. And like I said, I did update all of the wireless-related drivers so I’m not sure that’ll fix this problem

Do you happen to have either an Alienware laptop or something that uses Killer Wireless Cards?
Komrade Dec 23, 2019 @ 5:48pm
And do you have any wifi optimizer apps or anything of the sort?

Which anti virus do you use?

This does seem like a larger issue than Steam.

I use an Alienware 17 R5. Like I said, I’m not good with technology but my friend did lead me through some steps to update my wireless drivers in one of those brief moments where I had full internet access. I have no wifi optimizing apps and I don’t currently use antivirus unless CCleaner counts as one (I use it to clear up files so I’m not sure if it counts as one). I used to use avast but I got this computer 15 months ago and I’m pretty sure I never downloaded it on here.

Perfect. I suspected you had an Alienware laptop. Navigate to the "Killer Control Center", and in there, disable the function called "Stream Detect".

I’ve found the folder with that name. Thing is that I don’t seem to be able to open anything. I’m trying to run CustomizeInstallFirstRun (and have tried to open it as admin) and it seems to open a window but close shortly after. I’m also trying the KillerNetworkService exe but nothing’s happening for that one. I’m going to try taking a picture of the window on my phone to see what the problem might be.

Try just searching for the control center by pressing the windows key.

If you can't find it...

https://www.dell.com/support/home/ca/en/cadhs1/product-support/product/alienware-17-r5/drivers

Download all network drivers from the network tab.

Alright then. I'm not very good with network issues, so if you could post in the networking forums there's likely someone that can help you out:

Sorry for the very specific problem. Thank you anyway!
