Steam failed to install (Connection Timed Out)
How this error is still around is beyond me, changing regions does not fix the problem. Anyone know how to fix this annoying bug?

Add Steam to the list of exclusions in your firewall and anti-virus.

Steam originally uses an Internet protocol called UDP to transmit data. Changing it to TCP can help you fix the “could not connect to the Steam network” error. To do so:

1) Right click the Steam shortcut on your desktop and select Properties.

* If there is no Steam shortcut on your desktop, go to where you have installed the program. Then right click the Steam executable file (Steam.exe) and select Create shortcut.

Then right-click the shortcut and select Properties.

2) In the Target text box, add “-tcp” to the end. Then click OK.

3) Double click the shortcut to launch Steam, and then see if this method solves your problem.

restart steam as admin after doing this it worked for me.

This is what Target looks like, is this correct?

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -tcp

Randomly at some point of its own choosing it will start working again.

Here more Fixes

-4. Steam not working - getting error message on startup (offline mode not available - no connection possible)
-3. Execute the command "netsh winsock reset catalog" with admin rights.
-2. Execute the command "netsh int ip reset reset.log" with admin rights. (Notice, I missed the "hit", as in your suggestion.
-1. Reboot.

1. Boot
2. Autostart Steam
3. Steam closes instantly
4. Execute Steam.exe (without any parameters)
5. STILL getting error message (offline mode not available - no connection possible)
6. Click "RETRY"
7. Steam works !

Please try to explain to me, what the actual solution was, now and how I can prevent this from happening in the future ;)

In addition:
T H A N K S to you all - your kind help has fixed my problem ;) (while Steam Support still insists I &$%$ my router up :P)
Also, I hope this is a permanent fix or ever-working solution for this problem :/ ... as I have not dared to reboot and see, if I'm getting this error again :D
