It appears I am unable to finish this quest because 1: I don't have a mic, and 2: I don't having any friends.
Is there any way I can complete this quest as a mic-less loner?

I think the issue is that people have to be online. You can try adding me, I need this quest too. Got it. It needs to be someone from your friends' list and both of you have to be online. Open a normal chat window, click the voice chat button and wait for the other part to accept the voice chat request.
