Cannot accept gift because of country restriction but we are in the same country store?
Hey there,

My friend sent me a gift on Steam. However, I am not able to accept it because Steam says game is restricted in my country. My friend and I have the same store region.

As a note: I travel between UK and Turkey a lot. Can the problem be caused by this?

THanks.

It was made in the Turkish store using a Turkish debi card but I was located in UK. It has been like 5 months tough. I am in Turkey right now. I can make a purchase and try if it works. Gift is also from Turkish store.

I'll ask the same question directed towards your friend.

They all say Turkey. Both for my friend and I. Should I reject the gift and ask him to resend it?

"game is restricted in my country"

This is a country (Turkey) banning the game.

What game is it?

It's 7 days to die. Weird thing is my friend bought it for himself and sent 2 gifts. Other guy who is also in Turkey accepted the gift w/o a problem.

Send a digital gift card instead to avoid dealing with regional restrictions.

Why do I not believe one or both of you are actually physically in Argentina?

Its pretty nonsense that you cannot gift from one country to another same country. I have no idea what valve is trying to achive but all these secret valve agents having trust issues here definitely not helping

The chances are high one or both of those users are abusing the system to get games cheaper and the system blocked the transaction.

There have been some legal restrictions, but those aside the only restriction that prevents gifts from one country to another is when the price difference between the two exceeds 10%. As long as it is below 10%, the games can be gifted to whomever.

They are protecting their customers. Valve has two groups of customers, end users who play the games, and the developers and publishers who make and sell the games. If Valve didn't put certain restrictions in place, there would be no games on Steam.

1. Regional pricing a thing, maybe look it up sometime. Regional pricing exist in this case for gaming to help those regions that has weaker currencies, and that it's economic differently between countries. If someone was from US making over $1k a month, they can live comfortably in Argentina, fine food, rent, and more, which on Avg ARS salary $45k which is $550 USD you can see how huge the gap already by nearly 50%, that because how weak the ARS compare to the USD.

Now if we got morons trying to ruin regonal pricing for that countries that has weaker currency problems, publishers, and dev may at some point give up, and just ask out equivalent USD price across, which everyone loses, and all thanks to those morons that want to ruin it so badly for their own personal little entertainment because they want cheaper games.

A country can't recovery magically if their currency took a drive, or could not rise to such power gap compare to other currencies. There's no magic wand to fix world problems.

2. People been trying to abuse regional pricing by using VPN, proxy, or etc to mask their location, and provide fake information where they're from, pending to be in said country, to buy games at a lower price.

3. Con artist, people try to abuse this as well by trying to sell the games they have no rights to be doing to someone, and con them out of their money. No store supports scammers.
