Voice Chat Not Working & No Voice Option in Steam Settings

Like the title says, I cannot get my voice chat to work. Further to that the voice tab is no longer appearing in the steam settings!

When I attempt to test it on gmod the test stops after 1 second.

I have tested my microphone with other software and it is working just fine. It just seems to be steam and steam games that don't like it.

I haven't played with a mic for a while, but it used to work just fine.

Any suggestions?

Are you using the old chat interface (-nochatui)? Voice chat was disabled for this a few days ago.

I'm having the same problem. Just stopped working. Tested the mic and it works fine, just steam and steam games.

also same issue i have no way to add my new mic it works perfect on my pc just not in steam no way to add it

Steam voice settings were moved, not removed. You can find them by opening the friendlist and clicking on the cog icon in the top right corner.

How would you go about testing the mic then? I don't see a test mic option.

3 options...

1. Use windows own mic settings.

2. Use the commands to revert the UI back.

3. Use Big Picture Mode to test the mic.

I had problems with mic afterr last windows 10 update.
Solution for me was formating my PC.
After clean windows 10 installation and after downloading new updates everything was fine.

p.s. Because of win 10 updates I keep all my important files on my HDD.
Windows 8.1 is a different story. Never had any kind of problems with win 8.1.
