"Hide this game" option in Steam Library. What does it exactly do?
This probably has been mentioned before, but I've noticed that now there is a "hide" option if you right click on a game in the library.

What does it exactly do? Does that option mean the game will be hidden and won't show up while browsing my library? Or does it means that it will be hidden from the public and/or friends if my privacy settings allow them to see it? Or maybe both?

Can someone make it clear for me? Thanks in advance!

Hidden in your library from you and others until you unhide it

I thought it was just from your library not your profile unless there been an update that hides it from both. Because in older threads I have seen people say it is still visible if people look at their profile.

The hide option always was there. In the old UI it was in the categories screen. All it does is make your game hidden in your library, so you don't see it immediately (which is neat for organising). You can view your hidden games through View --> Hidden Games.
They still are on the profile and everybody that can see your gamelist can see the hidden games.

Through the support pages you can "permanently" remove a game from your account. It won't be visible anymore in your library *and* on your profile. It's not permanent though, as you can get the game back through the same support pages.

Yeah, this is how it works.

Go to your hidden games via View on the top bar, select the game and choose to unhide it.

It's somehow ridiculous. You hide the games to your own view e.g. on your download-page.
But they are visible on the profile to show, you've played them recently.

This is exactly the wrong way around ... :lunar2019laughingpig:

Correct. You're confusing a hidden game for a private game. Hiding was always mean to help clean up the library. To keep games private from others, you'd have to set your game details as private in your profile privacy preferences. It is only just recently that they started testing per-title privacy, currently available in the beta client, so you should expect to see that in the near future of the main client.

Is it? I use the hide function so games I'm totally not interested in (anymore) aren't visible to me in my library. That's the primary function of the hide function.

You're looking for the "make a game private" function. As Hotsauce says, that's in the beta currently.
How do you unhide a game from big picture mode, where there's no "View" button in the top bar?

Press on the Steam menu in the bottom left.
Go into Settings>Home.
Click on the Manage button next to "x games are hidden".
Select the game.
Settings(cog wheel)>Manage>Remove from Hidden

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
