PC gaming keys

So for a lot of games, the f keys (f1, f2, f3, etc) are used. On my laptop, which is a HP envy 15 something, the f keys when I try press them don't work in game, instead they do what their use is on the actual computer for example f2 makes the screen darker, but f2 in the game might be switch to torpedoes. And I can't actually switch them... Any help on how to change their function only when the game is running? Any help much appreciated

I would expect somewhere in the configuration there is an option to disable the multi-media keys. Or just use the fn + f1-f12 like you would normally do. The fn key is usually how the alternate key modes are managed.

I had same problem on my acre swift 5, but it works like this: the f keys only work if i press them at the same time as the Fn button.
