Steam suddenly wants my name and address to make purchases.
I've been buying things on steam for years, and it always let me go straight to my banks payment portal.

However now it's suddenly asking me for my name, address and phone number to initiate payment.

When i made a purchase in December this wasn't the case yet (which makes me think it's not related to the new banking PSD2 regulations). Anyone got any idea what's changed?

That's pretty funny considering the payment method i use is unique to my country.

i guess the checkbox "yes i live in this country" isn't good enough anymore.

Doesn't matter. It just helps prove you are where you say you are.

Not really. Not any more/less than the info from the transaction itself would.

Would make more sense if it was about fraud/charge backs kinda things.

You wouldn't believe the amount of users who move but never update their address info and that info must match physical location and card details. Seriously, we don't need a passport to move from state to state. Just pick up and go.

There is no card involved. It's a bank transfer.

A unique type of bank transfer that pretty much is only available to people with access to a bank account in this country.

So it feels kinda redundant in this particular case, but i guess they just blanket applied it to everything.

Paypal is the only payment method that doesn't ask for the info. (cause paypal gives them the info with the transaction).

So if you have access to a paypal account that's not in your personal name you can try that.

Bummer, I like that you don't need to sign in to play. I joined not long ago, send them email asking them about payment method and they are very friendly. Got 2 games free during Christmas ( Wasteland 2 and Tower of time ) Was nice that I don't need to sign in to play them.

GoG sometimes offers GoG Connect. Connecting your Steam Account with your GoG Account and transfering some games for free. That way I have about 100 or so games there
