The Orange Box
Hello.
I bought The Orange Box from a 2nd hand store. Obviously I cannot use the steam key that come with the game box as its already locked to another steam account.
My question is, If I buy a new key from steam can I still install from the dvd and negate the huge download? This was my reason for buying the actual dvd set. I have limited internet data to download the full dvd set.
Thanks.

EDIT. The version I have is Half-life 2: Episode Two which has in small print at bottom of DVD case "also includes Half-life 2 and Episode One.

Well... interesting question, my biggest concern is updates and changes since the orange box was released.

So definite maybe.

The game won't be on the disk in a meaningful way, as the literal engine was changed long after the Orange Box was dropped physically.

They changed to the Episode One engine and later on something more, considerably after the box was available, so... no, you won't "negate" the need, it won't do anything for you. It'll still have to download the entire thing from Steam's servers.

Try this.

But like the guys say there still will be some/a lot of downloading.
Hopefully that can make it less painful.

The Orange Box does indeed contain: half life 2, episode 1, and episode 2.

AFTER which the engines were changed to be more 'uniform'. This caused a major issue with a lot of mods made for one or the other of the episodes, as the engine varies significantly enough that they broke.
The games are free until the new game comes.

Play all the games now from steam store. No need to buy them (especially not twice)

They're not free to keep, they're only to play until Alyx releases.
