[SOLVED] Steam Wallet asking for information
I am trying to buy a dlc for a game that is on sale, and goes off sale in 13 hours. I tried to pay with Steam Wallet, but it still asks for information like first name, last name, zip code, state, city, etc. This wasn't happening before.

It's a requirement now.

After the most recent update? It sucks if it is required

Thanks to the tax laws. Steam has to follow the law.

Oh, that sucks. Thanks for the info though.

It's mostly thanks to state senators, government, and so on demanding the citizen pay their taxes, and that was included for digital game sales on Steam, which Steam was force to apply them, so they follow each state in the US laws, and requirements, and do minimum things such as verifying that the person isn't trying to do tax evasion.
Yeah, this is awful, I don't want to have to go to the trouble of making up fake info just to use the steam wallet funds I already bought.

You aren't supposed to put in fake info.

Using credit card is practically enough to verified. If you fear using your credit card, you can get one of those pre paid master, or visa cards, registered them, and use them to verify on Steam, then you have nothing to fear really.

These are video games, I'm not supposed to have to enter a trust relationship with my video games provider.

Yeah! That's what I'm saying, it asks for personal info now even on a gift card.

You don't have to. But if you want to buy a video game over the Internet, you have to give your billing information to someone. That's just how e-commerce works. What do you think is going to happen if you give them your information?
You still haven't said why they need it. The default is not giving out my personal info; unless they need somewhere to mail the packets to, they don't need it.

It's not like they can avoid it seems, as Steam has to ensure people are not doing tax evasion, and so on, which is why they're doing this. If the state/providence/government didn't demand there to be taxes to be on Steam, then Steam wouldn't be doing this at all.

It's not a problem really, but no matter what you will always be sharing your details, may it be with Amazon, eBay, you name it, and doesn't make them any better either.
Oh yeah that makes sense! You always need a phone number when you're charging tax.

You have over a thousand games on Steam, how have you never once given your phone number to Valve?

Yes, yes, this is a very good reason why they'd need to call me.
Callsign Casiotone Jan 21, 2020 @ 10:01pm
No, they don't need to identify me to charge me tax. They know where I am, and the tax is based on that, not who I am.

I don't have to be afraid of anything; I have nothing to gain from Valve having my phone number. If Gabe Newell wants to chat, I mean, I'm certainly open to the prospect, but he should say that on the form.
