I can't buy new games as I have changed country, what to do?
I signed up in Thailand, I originally came from the UK, now I live in Ecuador. I don't have a local bank here. Therefore, Steam says I can't buy games as I need a funding source within my new country.

Support have not replied to me. Anyone got a suggestion? Should I start a new account for Ecuador and see if that work? Should I try using a VPN to convince Steam I am in the UK or Thailand? Is there anything else like additional verification which can be done? Thanks

Don't use a VPN

Get a payment method from your current country.

GameStop appear to have some presence in Ecuador... no guarantee that they will have Steam Wallet cards though.

I just landed in Ecuador and a only visiting. Are you saying the only way I can play games through Steam is to opem up a dummy bank account? They might not even let me do that as I am on a tourist visa and come countries require you to be on a student/working visa to open a bank account.

It strikes me that I just need to be in the country where the payment is coming from when buying the game. Therefore, is it worth getting a UK VPN, then buying games, then once installed I can turn the VPN off? I know VPNs can result in bans but at least it gets me my games, gets Steam it's mony and stops be from just downloading the games from free from somewhere.

Or you could just get friends or family to buy Steam wallet cards for you and send you the codes. Pay them back through PayPal, Western Union, etc.

Oh, and do stay within the law...

Thanks Bruj but GameStop's website won't open for me.

You can also use Steam Wallet Cards, those work worldwide.
You can charge your wallet that way and buy stuff.
Did it often enough during holidays when i switched store for the duration because of cheaper prices.

Bruji, your wallet cards option sounds like a good idea. Its a bit messy though. I am finding most of the games can be downloaded from elsewhere so will carry on with that unless a reasonable option comes up with steam. Might just have to get some anti virus software ;)
