Steam thinks there is no space on my disk
I attached an external drive to my laptop and designated it as another disk for my steam library, then installed a game on it. Now Steam does not think I have any available space to install games unless the external drive is plugged in. Even though I have 40GB of free space on my internal SSD. I have deleted the external drive as a disk for Steam and it still won't show any available space unless the drive is plugged in.

Check again and see if it's really removed.

Clear Steam's download cache and repair its content folders.

Re-start Steam - be sure to do that.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've done them, and Steam still doesn't think I have space on my internal drive unless the external drive is connected.

The last resort would be re-installing Steam.

If you somehow choose to do this though, be sure to backup your games and other files.

I was hoping not to have to reinstall, but that fixed it.
