my monitor is not switching off when ps4 controller is plugged in
i have 2 laptops: an hp and an alienware. i set the screen to turn off after 1 minute in the power plan on both laptops. i connected the ps4 controller to each laptop by using a usb wire

the screen of the hp laptop switched off after 1 minute when the ps4 controller was plugged in into the hp laptop. however, the screen of the alienware is not switching off when the ps4 controller is plugged in into the alienware laptop

why is the screen not turning off on the alienware laptop when the ps4 controller is plugged in? the screen switches off when there is no controller plugged in or if my xbox controller is plugged in. why on one laptop the screen is switching off and on the other it's not?

maybe go to device management and let windows allow to put the controllere to sleep if idle
maybe your alienware doesnt do that

Some piece of software is reacting to the gamepad and preventing power saving. Is it the preloaded configuration or did you nuke it to clean it?

You have to go into advanced settings in power options and change the usb selective suspend setting

These are laptops right? Have you tried using the controller *while the laptop is plugged into a power source* rather than on battery power? Quite easy way to figure out whether it's the power issue. I'd recommend using a plug anyway, for any gaming laptop.

Where your power options are will depend on what OS and setup you have.

they are both laptops and both are plugged into electricity

on both laptops it's set to enabled

i didn't install any extra softwares. i am using steam on both laptops. all i did was i enabled playstation support in big picture mode on both laptops and that's it

Man, I just wanted to say that I've been trying to figure out this problem with my display for much too long - finally isolated today that it was the DS4 (rather than an external HD or something) but wasn't able to augment it's power management in device manager. Your post FINALLY did the trick :D So many thanks

mine won't turn off either. windows 10 1809 and earlier worked but not any version after.

Ask Laptop support. Desktop pc is Brand pc or Mortherboard support. USB attachment is a sub product to main product.

dont forget unplug and replug all usb unit , so it reset USB Configuration, even that is seen before. rest is just update USB Driver and the Device Driver in the usb port ( mouse to whatever )

Turning off "Game Mode" works for me.
