"FRIENDS NETWORK UNREACHABLE"

I am having a slight problem with Steam, I can get on it, play games, browse discussions, store, etc; but I cannot sign into the "Friends Network", which is preventing me from showing up online..
I tried setting my status to Online, restarting Steam, and doing some sort of propertie edit with the target file thing. Any help on what to do?

Are you using any 3rd party antivirus / firewall? Maybe disable them, see if you're able to connect, if you're able to, then that means they're blocking Steam from access to certain protocols.

Are you using custom DNS? If so either change it, or use default.


Do you have a router setup as a firewall? If so look into what protocols it might be blocking, maybe port forward.

Try running Steam as administrator.

Try opt-in or out of Steam beta.

Dr. Shadows, I have same problem. 2 days ago everything was working fine, yesterday it stopped (no changes to firewall, no changes to antivirus, no changes at all). Just only solution that worked is to switch Friends UI to old one using "steam.exe -steamos" switch. Old UI works fine, no problem with connect.

I got the same issue, since months now. Without changing anything it connects to friends network from time to time. But most of the time it stays at "loading friends network".
Nothing worked so far for me to make it connect consistently. Most of the time I have to stick to "-steamos". All the trouble started with the introduction of the "super" new chat UI.
