Steam games disable touchpad automatically
I recently got a new computer (Lenovo, Windows 10). Whenever I launch a steam game with a mouse attached, it disables my touchpad automatically, and I've got to re-enable it each time. Which can get quite annoying.

I can't find any settings either in Steam's settings related to this OR Window's settings. I can find a setting for disabling the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in, but I've set that such that that doesn't occur. I've also disabled Game Mode, with the idea that Game Mode might have been causing the touchpad to turn off, but no, even with game mode disabled the touchpad still turns off whenever a steam game is launched.

Computer is updated, drivers ought to be updated, problem persists through restarts - not that I would think those would be relevant but figured I'd at least cross them off the list. Also my google-fu has failed me - trying to search for the problem just gives me a hundred pages with advice on how to turn off/on the touchpad manually, and nothing related to it automatically disabling, no matter how I word it.

If anyone has any idea what is causing this and how to change it, I would greatly appreciate the help.

If there's a better section or location for this, let me know. I was recommended to come here.

1. Does this help?
He explains how he turns that feature on, perhaps u can use same steps to disable it.

2. If this doesnt work however I recommend deleting your touchpad driver and see how it behaves. Then install after if needed. (Not update but clean reinstall)

Yeah that first thing definitely didn't help. As I said, the issue isn't with the touchpad and mouse alone, it's with touchpad + mouse + game. Plus a lot of the options he goes through there are not something I have on mine - I can't actually open advanced touchpad options, it just brings me to advanced mouse options, which is rather annoying.

I can try deleting the drivers, but there's some oddities going on with the drivers in the first place and I am hesitant to screw with them if there's another option.

I appreciate the help though.

In case it's still relevant for anyone. The Lenovo Vantage App has a function called "Touchpad-Lock" under "input", which disables the touchpad and the windows key during gaming if you are using a mouse. Names may vary as I don't use the app in english.

It's the Lenovo Vantage app that's causing the issue. You could probably find a setting for it in the app,

OR do what I did and uninstall the app entirely. Works just as well.

I have this problem too, since december 2019. I'm on Asus windows 10. %100 steam is disabling touchpad in the background. Without permission might I add.
My touchpad works fine in the lock screen. Just uninstalled steam and my touchpad is working again both on lock screen and normally as it should. It's not the driver, it's steam.
Even if you disable steam at startup and disable steam background process it still disables touchpad.
