What is the difference between the green and the greey steam login button
Hello, im so confused at this moment. I dont understand what is the difference between the green and the greey steam login button.
What can happen if for example on a site is a green login button instead of a grey one? Is that legal?

I have not seen a Steam login button in a different colour.
If you want to be certain, that a login is legitimate, do the login on the official main page of Steam. Every honest website will carry it over and only ask you to confirm, that the account is yours instead of asking for your name and password again.

the open id package that most sites uses has the grey login button, but it is an image, it can change to anything really.

So it doesnt matter if it dont say"not affiliated with valve" or it has steam logo right?

I think the green buttons are the old buttons, they changed them to add the "not affiliated with Valve" to reduce confusion. However there's probably a lot of sites still using the old buttons.

Since they're ALL not affiliated, it doesn't matter. It only matters if it directs you to the proper login form or a fake/phishing form.

When logging into another website using steam information, first stop for a second and google the legitimacy of the site.
Additionally, check if login to steam is "https" and steamcommunity.com
Scammers sometimes make links such as "stemcommnunity" or similar bad spelling to trick users to log in thinking its real steam login.

Bad idea. May come up with a false-negative luring you into a false sense of security. Better go by the old "evil is as evil does" or rather "scam is as scam does"-rule.

Sites using openid will never be affiliated with Valve/Steam, no matter what they write on their site.

Never a negative thing to be put off from using item trading or gambling sites.

See also: their stuff is fully trademarked and protected, so if you're using their images or their info, you should probably *get permission* if you're trying to run a LEGIT site.

If you're trying to start a site that will wind up being blocked out by hearts here or outright "link removed" maybe think twice about using ANY of their resources.

You want to be safe? Don't ever log in on those sites.
Go to steamcommunity.com and log in there, THEN go back and see if you're logged in. If you are, good. If not, it's probably trying to steal your info.

He's not trying to log on to them, he claims to want to OWN one.

I was more following the later part of the convo, but yeah for site owners.. whatever picture you want. Could be a flashing LOG ME INTO STEAM ala an open sign for a store for all anyone cares.
