Any way to force an overlay for a game?
My steam overlay is not working for a specific game on steam for me, is there a launch option I can put in that I can use to force it to work for that game?

No. If the game is incompatible, it's simply incompatible, that can have many reasons and trying to force it will not work.

no it is, it use to work now it doesn't for whatever reason. thought I would be able to get a workaround for the bug currently happening for me and other people, but I guess not.

I know that i've tried lot of DOS games on Steam (GoG shorcuts or bought from Steam) and none of them works so when it comes to DOSBox and Steam overlay, forget about it.

There are some games that the overlay won't work whatever you do, you could say it's hardcoded in the game, kind of. Need for Speed Undercover is one of those.

If it is not working for any games, make sure it is enabled in your Steam settings. Steam -> Settings - > In-Game -> Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game
Make sure it is enabled for the game itself too. Library -> name of the game -> properties -> Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game.

If it is for a game where the Steam overlay is supposed to work then what i do when it just decides to freeze, not work at all or when i'm having any kind of problem with it, i just end the task in the task manager.

If nothing of that works then i can't really help you, supposedly that some softwares interrupt the Steam overlay, programs that themselves also has some kind of overlay for example, and supposedly that screen recorders can affect your Steam overlay too.

What's the game you're trying to use the Steam overlay for if i can ask?

It was ring of elysium, but I got it working now by turning off compability mode in the properties for steam + plus I think admin mode helped.

Congrats, and admin mode for Steam isn't a good idea, or i should say it depends, i don't remember why i activated it before but it helped with one or more games but i also had new problems because of it so you're probably better with it off.

yeah I don't use it, plus it's annoying when it asks me for control everytime I launch steam.

As far as i know, you can disable the notification for it so it will never tell you again.

Can you do that? Yes. Should you? HELL NO! That's like giving every application on your computer a free pass to run with administrative rights, making it unsecure as hell.

Late reply but. Some games have Steam Overlay disabled by default as it may bug the game. If you insist on enabling it. Right Click > Properties and in the General Tab under Launch Options. Type "--in-process-gpu" without the " ".
