Side by side configuration error (0x36B1)
I decided to post this here because it will probably not be seen by anyone at the game's discussion forum.

I bought Dead Rising 2: Off the Record during the winter sale and I can't get it to run. Whenever I try to launch it, it doesn't even open the game and says "The Application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. ... (0x36B1)".

So I went and google'd it and found out that it's probably due to corrupt or missing Visual C++ files. I uninstalled ALL VisualC++ versions I had, restarted my computer, installed them again and still nothing.

I also saw some guys having this problem in World of Wartanks or something, and they had the wrong version in their registry, but mine is fine.

Anyone got any clues? I think I've tried everything. I've even tried installing it to C: (I usually install my Steam games on the D: drive).

Thank you all in advance.

Try the forum for that game first.

I did, but I don't think I'm gonna get any answers there. I'd like to at least get confirmation that this error is not fixable (except for a complete windows reinstall, which I don't intend to do in order to fix the only application that has this issue) before the refund period ends.
try to run it in compactibility mode

I've tried all compatibility options available and the error persists.

Po cara, acabei desistindo e pedindo reembolso. :/

Cheguei a pensar em formatar o PC e deixar com o Windows zeradinho pra ver se resolve, mas não quis ter que ir até esse extremo por causa de só um jogo

I have a similar error, when I go into the local folder and launch the application from there it seems to work, does it function for you?
