Can you play ATS on a regular laptop
So I have a gift card to Best Buy, and it’s enough to either get a gaming laptop or I can get a normal laptop and a g920 wheel and shifter. The whole reason I got into gaming on PC vs console is for the simulation and RPG games. Sorry if this isn’t the right place to post this, but I’m new to all of this and I’m going to Best Buy in the next few days and I definitely think you guys will be able to help me a whole lot more than just the workers at Best Buy. Any help is greatly appreciated please don’t just roast me and call me stupid for not knowing lol, I really have no idea and instead of acting like I do and wasting a lot of money I figured it was best to ask. Im not sure how steam is but I know some of these discussions boards are absolutely ruthless on people for not knowing or asking questions in the wrong place lol. Thanks in advance guys I’m looking forward to any help you guys have for me

Totally depends on the specs of the computer in question.
Anyway, try to use paragraphs to avoid the dreaded wall of text.

You can play it on a laptop as long as the device meets the recommended specifications. There is also a demo available on the store page to try.

Regular = what? Exactly?
Gaming = what? Exactly?

I've seen people sold office based laptops as gaming for various reasons. Ive also seen some gaming laptops with specs so old and bad they shouldnt be considered gaming laptops in the year they get sold.

List the specs. Of both. Or give users a budget and see what they can recommend. Budget + user recommendation is usually to better option.

Also if you dont need a laptop because you wont be moving around build a system is usually better hardware for similar price.

I was going to go with the Acer nitro 5 gaming laptop but I’m wondering if the Hp intel core i5 8gb memory 1tb hard drive maglia pattern could handle ATS With the wheel and shifter, it’s also 17.3 inches which is a nice touch considering the Acer is 15.6 inch’s. Then again both are plenty of big it’s just A nice upgrade if I will be able to go that route. Only thing is iv heard HP makes bad products but again I don’t know if that’s true, if the HP can’t handle it or they aren’t good do you have any recommendations on normal laptops that can handle ATS?

My budget is between $500 I could actually bump the budget up to $650 if I don’t get the Tobii eye tracker 4C I don’t know anything about the tobii I just know the people I watch on YouTube talk so highly of the Track IR or anything that tracks movement for gaming I was just trying to make my experience playing ATS the best it can be but the more I think about it the less and less I actually want to get the eye tracker I don’t think it’s necessary by any means so anything you guys can find in my budget that will play ATS please lmk

Stil need full specs for that to mean anything. Acer nitro 5 = amd 75mhz 8mb ram and a 2d gpu?
Hp with i5. Several i5 types for each generation so just saying i5 diesnt help. No gpu listed. Might be integrated on the i5 but again the type is needed.

If you dont know what to look for atleast post the full make and model of the laptops so users can look them up themselves.

i5-7200u with Intel UHD-620, no dedicated graphics.

It'll run it at low resolution/high fps, medium resolution/medium fps or high resolution/low fps. It won't run much else, see the results here:

Guys I actually think I can work it out and get the Acer nitro 5, with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card 8 gigs of RAM, the intel 8th gen core i5
with 2.3 gigahertz base processor, video memory is 4000 megabytes and it says graphics type discrete whatever that means. Are those the right specs? It’s marketed as a gaming laptop so I’m hoping it will be more than enough to run ATS and the Logitech driving force G920 wheel and the Logitech driving force shifter what do you guys think?

I have the option to either have the AMD Radeon Rx 560 graphics card for like 60 or 70 bucks cheaper but I just figured since I’m not just spending my money it’s on a gift card and I was worried about it being able to keep up I might as well just go with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 do y’all agree?

4GB RAM is rather on the low side, you'd want at least 8GB RAM.
Dedicated video means it has a dedicated videocard from nVidia or AMD and not just an integrated videochip (Intel or AMD APU).

Good thing it has that in addition to the 4GB VRAM. ;)
The acer nitro 5 will play ATS (and the newer ETS2 should you switch) just fine,.

Cathulhu I mentioned the nitro 5 had 8 gigs of ram atleast I thought I did lol. Anyways thank all of you guys for the help I really appreciate it. Now I won’t look like a complete idiot in Best Buy when I’m asking all of my questions, I can have a little bit of knowledge.

Washell this may be kind of a silly question but I don’t know so I’m going to ask. Will I have any trouble running a wheel and shifter that Nitro 5 laptop by any chance or will it be pretty much just like a PC? I do have a PC a friend big into computers built for me for gaming that I play on so if I have to run it all on there I will. I was just hoping I could also use the laptop so I could sit at my table and clamp it there so I can be a little more mobile and don’t have to just stay in my room.

You might want to look into a laptop cooling pad (read some reviews) and depending on the number of other USB stuff you're going to plug in, you might need a USB hub, it only has 3 USB ports. E.G. cooling pad, steering wheel, external drive and mouse would already add up to 4.

There is another Acer core i5 for the same price but it only has 256 gig solid state drive and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti so the only difference in the title is the graphics card is a Ti vs just a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050.

I’m wondering if it being a Ti is that much better to sacrifice 744 gigs of storage. Again sorry if I’m asking stupid questions. I just think it’s much better to ask questions and look stupid then it is to pretend like I know what I’m talking about, and end up screwing my self by not getting the best laptop possible for my budget if there were better options for the $700-800 mark.

I guess what I’m asking is should I go for something with decent storage a decent graphics card and just decent everything, or sacrifice something to upgrade something else. Also if it’s easier for y’all to see what I’m talking about because I know I’m not explaining it the way I need too. I’m just on the Best Buy app or website and I go to gaming laptop and if you sort them by price either low to high or high to low then all of the Acers from $700-$800 that I’m looking at come up. I know it’s a lot to read I tried to write in some sort of paragraphs to make it easier to read
