Activating Old Games
I had a physical copy of The Orange Box stored away, forgotten about since I didn't even have a system capable of running Source Engine games at the time. I finally remembered to dig it out when I actually had the time to and to sit down and enter the activation code. Simple enough and worked just as designed.

Now with that box, I also had my discs for the Half-Life (1) Platinum Collection, along with the labels for the CD Keys. Well, of course since these were from long before Steam, it turns out that the keys are not in the proper format for here (and TFC didn't even require a key). Without repurchasing digital copies, is there any way to activate these here anyway, just so I can earn acheivements etc if I decide to replay?

They should work on Steam as they are Valve games. The old HL games don't have achievements though.

I thought I saw achieves... oh well.

But how do I tell Steam that I have them? I guess physically install the discs then "Add a Non-Steam Game" is the closest I can think of.

Add the key like any other game.

"Well, of course since these were from long before Steam, it turns out that the keys are not in the proper format for here"
ie Steam won't accept the original keys that I have

It accepted mine.

My keys are for the original publisher, Sierra only, I think
1234-12345-1234
or
ABC9-ABC9-ABC9-ABC9-9999 (for Op. Force)

neither format is accepted by Steam

Indeed, that makes sense as that was a different publisher/distributor. However, could there be a possibility of still getting these counted as my owned Games here on Steam? Like sending someone in customer service a pic of the discs and manual? Or would that attempt just be a waste of more time?

I probably will in the next sale. I've already spent like twice as much as I meant to in this one, heh. Thanks.
