Steam avatar not updating completely.
I changed my avatar in my profile and it works fine when I check my profile page and it seems that the avatar next to this topic also changed, but the picture next to the pulldown menu where you find profile, store preferences and such is still the old one. In games it is also not updating.

Any idea how to get it to work?

Clear Steam's web cache and cookies - then check again.

Steam > Settings > Web Browser > Delete Web Browser Cache > Delete Web Browser Cookies.

Did it and restarted the client, sadly still the same problem.

Thanks for the help though. :)

Try doing it the manual way.

  1. Exit the Steam client
  2. Find some way to get to....
    C:\Program Files\Steam\appcache\httpcache
  3. Remove the htmlcache folder
  4. Restart Steam

I have the same problem.
A new avatar can be uploaded, no error message.
When I open my profile (web browser and Steam), I see my new avatar.

But in the drop-down menu for the profile in Steam and in the game (CS:GO) is still the old avatar to see.
After reinstalling Steam, the avatar changes, but when I upload a new avatar, the same problem occurs.

Uploading an avatar via the browser does not help.
Deleting download cache or httpcache doesn't help.

Please help.

It's been quite a while since I had this problem and found the fix, so I do not remember the exact details how I managed to fix it. However I do believe to remember that all I had to do was sign into my friends list, something I had never done since I always solo in games and never added anyone as a friend. As I remember I did not have to add a friend, just sign into the friends list/go online so to say into the community. I could go offline again right after I saw my avatar updated.

I am sorry I can't remember for certain, but I hope this helps you.

Goodluck!

Remove [STEAM PATH]\Steam\userdata\[your_steam3id]\config\localconfig.vdf this is just a text file includes your earlier user names, avatar paths etc...

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
