Steam client scaling doesn't work properly
I got a 4k Display with scaling active in Win10 and since some updates the Steam Ui is shifted but only some of the tabs like store page friends etc...
It got a offset i hover with my mouse like 10cm below and to the right under a button and it gets triggerd.Games tab works fine.
If i deactivate the scaling in steam client it is just too small. Some one got the same problem or has solved it?

and in steam Settings>Interface "Scale text and...." on

Greetings everyone!

Guess what, as someone who happens to have 4K display just like the two fine gentleman above, I encountered this bug, actually a little time ago, but now I got so tired of it.

The bug is, when you are running any DPI scaling like I'm currently using only 125% from Windows, the Steam Client doesn't properly account for it. What happens is the actual mouse cursor location, as indicated by the drawn curson on your screen, and the one Steam responds to, are not the same. That means you will have difficulty pressing any buttons on the screen, or anything that is a link. 100% of the UI is based on pointing at a location and pressing your mouse, so it doesn't quite work anymore.

You can counter some of it, because most of the left clicks still apply to the location your drawn mouse is at, but any rightclick will fail, because it will apply to wrong location. And thus you can't even counter it by rightcliking on wrong location, because if it does anything, it will open wrong context based submenu for the rightclick.

OP seems correct, with my 125% scaling, I was able to fix it by changing my Steam shortcut setting. That is any Windows shorcut for Steam you probably have on your desktop. Rightclicking them, then properties, then compatability settings, override DPI scaling(or something like that, I don't have English Windows), then choose scaling will be handled by the application. Oddly, Steam won't complain about compatibility mode when I have this particular setting on this particular selection, but if I change it to either of the two other scaling will handled by system options, then Steam will complain about compatibility mode being on.

The Steam setting OP mentions I already had on to begin with, it looks like something that would be on by default. Remember, the fix requires chaning each Steam shortcut you are using, like I start my Steam games with the separate shotcuts for each game, and I close the Steam often when I don't play, so if you have similiar usercase you need to chance all of them, since it can't be fixed some Steam directly. Oh wait, they don't have the combatability tab. But it seems that changing the primary Steam shortcut on desktop was enough. Odd, but I'll take it.

Finally, there is a small chance this could be a Windows bug, so I should mention that.

Im using an older Windows 10 version, I can't upgrade it due to hardware problems. So it's possible in this version of Windows, the scaling doesn't properly work with Steam app, or pass some proper info to Steam so that it would work. It's unlikely, as Steam is the only app where I have this kind of problem, it should happen on other programs as well. Maybe not all, but at least in one other. And games, I'm running a lot of games in full screen window.

If anyone knows a proper place to send bug reports to, I'd be intrested? I could only find things about beta client, but I certaintly am not intrested in running any beta client. I know this isn't the right place but then again, this was one of the top hits when I searched about steam scaling.

They still haven't fixed that! I have this problem in 2023 on Linux Mint. When I use 125% scaling in Linux, the Steam app scales back instead.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
