as for your post, i've aways used the xboxdrv as explained on the arch wiki w/o issues, but my build is a bit "old" (running CentOS 7 for quite a few years now)

I am running the latest kernel, so unless you manually updated it upgrading it might be worth a try to see if it fixes your controller issues.
The only "issue" I run in to is that the controller has to be connected before starting games through Steamplay/Proton otherwise they will not detect it.
I am launching my games through the Steam client and not Big Picture mode. I am unsure if BP mode on Linux does something funny with the controller drivers like it does on Windows.
