1080p on a 1440p
I'm gonna buy a 144hz 1440p Monitor although for Rust I will not be able to run 1440p at 100+ FPS therefore I plan to play on 1080p.
Will it look worse than 1080p native? If so how significantly?

Thanks in advance :D

1080p on a 1440p monitor will look worse than 1080p on a 1080p monitor. Lowering some of the fluff is always better than lowering the res.

A friend of mine has the same system as me but he runs with a 1440p TN G-Sync 144Hz monitor while I have a 1080p 60Hz IPS. We both have an i7 6700 with a 980 Ti and with Rust he gets on average 90~144FPS with some drops with things like multiple explosions but I've never seen it go below 60FPS and with G-Sync enabled it looks perfectly fluid/smooth.

Dropping my settings much lower than they currently are don't yield me a significant performance boost unfortunatley. Using VSR I found my performace to only be at best low 50s mid 60s at 1440p.
Currently my GPU is an MSI R9 390 although I'll be upgrading it to a 2070/used 1080ti within the next few months.

May I ask your system specs ?
Dont do it !!! i tried 2 1440p - 144Hz monitors one was an Acer Predator the other a Benq and they both looked poop in 1080p on most games although 1440p is well mint even my GTX1080-16gig 3000 ram and an i5-8600k didnt cut the mustard when it come to getting the kinda fps you want for shooters its not worth the fps loss for me personally so i opted for the 240Hz 1080p predator instead

So i guess it depends on what you want to play and how many fps you are willing to sacrifice for a better picture quality when deciding if you want to go 1440p but if you want to play 1080p why are you getting a 1440p ? the reason i did was because i wanted to play certain games in 1440p and my shooters in 1080p but alas it was not to be in 1080p (on the 1440p monitor) things get this fuzz around the edges especially in the distance my friend couldnt notice the difference and thought i was mad but its definetly there i suppose it depends how fusey you are
You are actually better off buying a 4k monitor if you want to play in 1080p then a 2k one.
Thats because 1080p to 4k scales perfectly 1:4 so every pixel in 1080p will be displayed as 4 pixels on a 4k monitor.
On a 1440p monitor the scale is more like 1: 1,85 which cant be upscaled correctly , which means the 1080p picture displayed in 1440p is much more uneven and blurry.

Only buy a 1440p monitor if you plan to play nearly all your games at that resolution.

i dont know really what this means tho xD:steamhappy:
it prob had something to do in the game settings
I only plan on playing Rust, and Rust alone, on 1080p. As my other main games, CS, R6, and Warframe, will run at 1440p 144+ FPS with no issue.

My specs are:
i5-8400
MSI R9 390 (Going to upgrade to a used 1080ti/2070 within the next few months)
