What is Steam Cloud? How is it working?
hi, 1. If I buy a new computer, and I reinstall a game that have a save on Steam Cloud. After I install Steam in my new computer. When I restart the game, will I restart the game with all my saves, at the same point that I was after reinstalling the game in a new computer? 2. If I have virus in my computer, and I have to restart my computer from 0 (scratch, like it was when out of the company). When I reinstall Steam and a game that have a save in Steam Cloud. Will I restart the game at the same point? 3. If I give my computer, but before giving it, put it back to 0 (scratch). Meaning I delete everything in my computer. When I buy a new computer, and reinstall Steam, and games that have Steam Cloud. Is all my games will restart at the same point they were. After I reinstall them? Is someone have tried those thing, or know about those thing? thanks. :)

It depends on the game.
It is best to keep backup of safes from games where you dont want to lose them.

And always make sure you choose the right choice if asked what to do.

If you want to have a backup of all your savegames (Ones stored outside of steam cloud), use a savegame manager. (google it)

Not all games use steam cloud. They store their savegames somewhere else.

hi, as I said in my thread. I'm asking about the game that have Steam Cloud? And, I'm not enough computer wise to start saving games at 25 places. Just opening my computer, and Steam, is already enough for me! :) Those questions are more for peoples that can say : ''yes, I have tried it, and it worked!''. Not just theorically, that it is suppose to work. thanks. :)
It works when it works for the game.
Some games have cloud sign but dont save saves.

See?
So, thats why we said what we told you
To search for a savegame, use a searchengine and ask this question:
(Gamename) savegame location

Just copy that folder and insert it in the same spot on a new computer or whatever. Make a note of the spot in a text file.

hi, I'm talking about the big games. That have either a Steam Cloud saves, or have their own servers saves(servers saves, I know that it work, because I have reinstall some games, and restart the games at the same place I was, after I reinstall). My question is more for Steam Cloud, does it do the same as the games that have thier own servers saves? thanks. Also meaning, if a steam and games that have Steam Cloud are desinstalled. When Steam and the games are reinstalled, will restart the game at the same point? Or, is the Steam Cloud is also desinstalled, when Steams or games are desinstalled? :)

OP, you should realise that steam itself doesn't handle savegames, UNLESS the developer choose to use Steam cloud. Not all games on steam use Steam cloud. So if you have a new computer, only the games with steam cloud are restored. ALL other savegames are stored OUTSIDE of steam.

This is why you need to manually backup these savegames, lookup where they are stored (See muppets post above), OR use a savegame manager to automate this process.

There is very little to explain, because all already have been said before.

Steam cloud isn't an application on itself you can uninstall. It's a feature from the steam client. So, if you install steam and reinstall a game with steam cloud, you will have the latest savegames restored, along with your configuration settings.

Does that answer your question?

Yes, but what you say will not work. If it is the same computer that is used. But put back to 0 for whatever reasons? (scratch, like it was when out of the company) (this is a windows feature when a computer have big stability problems). I'm talking just about the big games that I will play for a few years, not tha games that I will just play once, and it's over. I don't care about those games, because I will not play them a 2nd times. :)

The game rage has cloud sign, but you lose progress if you dont keep the save game files.

So
a) you ask for every specific game
or
b) keep backups of savegame files as a routine.

Save yourself the headache, get a gamesave manager.

1. Not all games use Steam Cloud. If it does then you don't have to do anything. As the Saves are on Steams Servers even if you unistall that game. The files are still on Steam Cloud servers.
2. Some games save stuff on their servers. MMORPGs for example. Again as the Saves are on the Games Servers even if you unistall that game. The files are still on kept on those servers.
3. Other games that don't use Steam Cloud or a Games Server will need backing up by YOU.

If ALL you games save on the cloud or a Game specific server then you have nothing to be concerned with. Any game that doesn't will require YOU to back them up. If you don't then you'll lose them and will need to start those games from the beginning.

Thanks, VAR, and Suicidal Monkey have answered my question. I was asking because, with 100's of games I have played. I had around 15 games that I don't want to loose progress. Some have their own Servers Saves Sites. Already tested, and it worked perfectly. But, some of the games that I am interested in, have Steam Clouds. And my question was. Is Steam Clouds worked as good, as the games that have their own Servers Saves Sites? Thanks, for all the infos! :)
