(Steam > Settings > Web Browser > Delete Web Browser Cache.
Try that and restart Steam.) <--- This worked for me, try it.(ty guy under me)
It's not a client side issue. This will eventually resolve itself.
(Currently not using Steam beta , Windows 7)
Try that and restart Steam.
Edit
I haven't tested this in the client [stable release] as yet - but it seems fine on a web browser.
Tested the issue on the Stable release and there was no problem...
Edit 2
Just clear Steam's web cache.
All is fine for me [on the Steam Stable release] - Windows 7.
Thanks, this fixed it. Game icon and avatars are properly showing now.
It was working fine for me, i didn't need to clear the cache here.
Try clearing Steam's web cache as shown above.
Are you opted into the beta updates?
It works for cached stuff (Like images and static content)
You should post details what isn't working for you. Nicknames and status aren't static, they could be dynamic and maybe just a server sided issue (or Cookie), not clientside. So please post details what does and doesn't work for you after trying a suggestion/solution.
Edit: Are cookies here to blame? can someone confirm by first clearing just web server cache, then cookies afterwards if it still didn't fix the problem? Finding it hard to believe cookies are here to blame. scratch that, just clear your cookies, cache and restart steam (It may crash), but after restart all should be back to normal.
It's probably just a local cache issue.
I'm unsure why a swath of users suddenly experienced this though.
Uhhmm i'm pretty sure i'm not
settings - account - beta participation: not participating ( 1 currently available )
That indicates no beta participation.
As suggested above, try to clear the web browser cookies as well...

Steam > Settings > Web Browser > Delete Cookies.
In addition to that, clear your download cache.
