Microphone working in everything except Steam launched games.

I've been having some trouble with my microphone on games launched from Steam. I'm not sure when the trouble started but I estimate about 4 weeks or so? When I play games launched from Steam, my microphone does not work. I can hear other players but nobody can hear me. So far I have only tested Rainbow 6, Hunt Showdown and CS:GO. My microphone will work with Discord and even the Steam calling from chat. My microphone will work on games not launched from Steam (Destiny 2 off Battle.net launcher.)

So far I have tried:

Set my mic as the default device

Made sure microphone boosts and volume are on

Reconnecting the mic from the back panel to front

Updated RealTek drivers

Made sure Steam voice settings selected the correct mic instead of just using the default

Uninstalled device on device manager and then re-plugging the mic

Checked the in game settings for voice

Does anybody have any ideas?

Make sure your mic is correctly detected in steams audio / voice settings. (Maybe leave on default if you're after in game chat over steam chat*)

Steam goes beyond most launch solutions and manages peripherals, controllers etc itself and they're making some changes at this time to how audio devices are detected.

Disable everything else Barre your communication and default sound devices in both sound and recording devices tabs and relaunch steam :)

*Also windows can only assign your mic to one application at a time its called "audio exclusivity" , if youve skype/discord whatever open in the BG. This may be why your games can't utilise your microphone correctly.

I've disabled both playback and recording devices except for the ones I am using. I also disabled exclusive mode on the mic. Do you think this is a Steam issue that I will need to wait on a fix for or maybe it's something on my end? Thanks for your help

unfortunately, there are lots of reasons this may be happening. do you mind posting your headset and system details ?

I was using a SoundMax Superbeam microphone. I recently borrowed a USB HyperX headset and the microphone worked on everything including games. I decided to just pick up another microphone and now all is well. I still don't quite understand why. Thank you for your help though, I appreciate it
