As far as cracks go: Don't do drugs. Is there a specific game you were worried about? Most games that can be played offline won't be really picky about your save file. I wouldn't mess around with multiplayer games though. They usually have some form of cheat protection.

to be honest i download crack before i buy, so i never go beyond 2% completion with that
i think like Tales Of Berseria or Atelier Sophie, they have that auto get achievement right? i was afraid when i play again while online and suddenly get those auto achievement because i load the game, Steam would be suspicious of me
yes it's kinda bad, but i kinda do it so i can spend my money for a game i really like, i feel kinda.......bad if i buy a newly come out game, then after 10 minutes i thought this game is not suite my style of play and it just rot in my library
